Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

She is the only one of the 3 dogs I have that wants to eat the chickens. I will never have another cocker, or any bird loving dog, again. My toy fox terrier, and my english shepherd are great with the birds.....in fact, they are only brave with the ganders if there is a fence between them, lol.
yeah, I think I'm done with bird loving dogs too.

I have a confession. I've been watching the live hatching feed from Metzer Farms all weekend. I'm trying my best to stay patient until mine are ready to lockdown in two weeks.

Yikes. You've got it bad. And there's no real cure for that either. Besides hatching more ducks. Wow. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

my cocker use to be the same way .
he would chase the birds everywhere.
grandma broke him of it, the old fashioned way, since even a shock collar wouldnt stop him

now he just follows the birds around when hes outside trying to get close to them to see them.
he is bonkers about any bird,
and specially loves the babies in the house, he checks on them every time he comes inside,

Explain.. "Old Fashioned Way"...

I had a male cocker that would dig out of the fence where I used to live, and kill chickens. There was no breaking him of it, and since he was my son's dog, he chose to have him go live with his dad in town. I think my son knew his dog's days were numbered, lol. The female I have is tiny for a cocker, and fast...but she hasn't actually "killed" a bird yet but she has caught and mauled them around.

lol they are cute and ugly all at the same time right now.
the geese are really starting to get their feathers in.

they will be moving out into the shed sometime this week.
they are too big to be on the porch,
and grandpa is complaining about the smell (even tho i clean it EVERY day)

hate to say it but every time he would take off after them she would catch him and beat him, and then he got penned in his kennel for an hour or 2

Keep an eye on the other cocker though. That's how Annie started out. Just licking them and playing with them. Then she killed one of my ducks and now this bird. She ATE it! So now it's over. She thinks they are food.

Uhg I know. There comes a time when ducks just don't smell good EVER.

Someone suggested this to me too. I don't think it would work on this dog since she already knows it's wrong. She's very smart. She doesn't go near them until I go inside and then she watches for me in the window while she mozies over to the cage. I might try a shock collar at some point. Or email Ceasar Milan. LOL.

QJ, sorry about your chicken. Dogs will be dogs. Hope you got your pen secure!

I have a question for hands on hatchers. I have an egg nearing day 26 that I think is backwards and cannot pip. Would you do anything?

riley knew it was wrong 2. when he would finally come back he would roll over and show his belly.
but it took forever for him to break focus on them and come back .

he also waited for you to either turn your back or be busy.

but the shock collar should work with her , just whenever she pays attention to the ducks shock her so she thinks the ducks and stuff do it.

and the duck thing wouldnt be bad but the geese poop like elephants!. lol.
green and smell!
