Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

OK, it looks like a yolk sac, but its not. Its pink. The light made it look yellow.

Marty. Its uploading now.... Do you think he has a better chance since all the blood, and yolk is absorbed?

I honestly must withold my opinion until I see the pic. Some things go away, and some don't. I really want to see this, for it sound unusual, and a looksee will be most helpfull.

If you seek hope, having absorbed the egg blood and yolk is never bad. It offers him some insurance, but it really depends on if he has a prolapse, or something just stuck there, and a weird growth from a double yolk egg, who knows?? We'll do what we can.

I've seen photos of this before but I don't recall the results. I'm going to try to find something to help.

Celtic, I'm gonna admit it. I did open the bator a few times. And he did some, i helped some.... For some reason, even if I dont open the bator, they shrink wrapped on me!!

........ I guess this just is NOT a very good hatch.

This does not look good, Dg. It rather appears that some of his intestines and digestive tract may have formed externally. I've never seen this. I hope Celtic, or someother duck person, has seen it (well, sort of, ya know...).

1. He was stornger, but is now getting weaker?
2. When did he hatch? Today?
3. Can you keep the mass moist, to give it time to see what it does? It appears to be oozing or weeping, which is not positive. I'm gonna stop now, before I bum you out, least I should be wrong.

DG, I gotta encourage you to not rush to help future hatches. I am getting the feeling you panic and do too much too soon and spend too much time opening the bator. Without the proper tools helping is extremely hard, and should be a last resort. Keep telling yourself hatches take days not hours and you need to let them work at it.

Now this little duckling in the photo needs to be kept moist in the bator on a clean paper towel and left to rest until the other two hatch out. Hopefully the egg junk will absorb and or release.

DG if you having shrunk wrapped babies every hatch you need a new hydrometer and you need to calibrate it to know it is reading properly. You can't go off ok just fill all the water wells and it will be good.

Oh and who ever wants Khaki eggs we have LOTS and lots and lots of eggs. Little buggers coming out of our ears.

Celtic, I love you!!

............... I really need to put a lockpad on my bator ...........

........... Should i be getting up at night to make sure its moist?.... I'm seriously taping it down tonight.... maybe not.... I don't know, I need to sleep though... I panic WAY to easy....

I just called Purina and they had never heard of Mazuri here. I blame their lack of knowledge! Also, we probably just don't have the market here for them to import specialist feed like that. Australia is too small, population-wise.

BUT I have seen Mazurin mentioned on pet bird websites (like, parrots etc.......when I was googling for it).

Might ask at my feed supplier when I am in there next.

Make sure he is secure in the bator, leave him alone. Make sure the humidity is up and goto bed. Stop getting up in the middle of the night, and try to not panic. Just keep telling yourself. days not hours, leave the lid shut.

I am off to bed, but will read up in the morning. Hopefully he has made progress by then, but plan to leave that duckling in the bator longer than an u assisted hatched duck would stay in it.
