To keep wasps from making nests in the coop and run, I take bar soap and rub it all over the ceiling of the coop and run, and on the edges outside where they could build their nests. I also do it to my birdhouses. Never had a problem with wasps. My grandpa did it too, and it's always worked for us. JIC anyone wants to try it!

Does it need to be a strong smelling soap like the deodorant types? Yellow Jacks were horrible this year. If I persuaded them to abandon one nest, the immediately started a new one inches away.

Sounds like a good idea--never heard of it but will give it a try. I always have some try to build nests under my gas grill. BTW, drumstick diva, true yellow jackets build their nests underground--yellow or white-faced hornets build hanging nests.

I agree with woodmort, The black and white hornets attacked me once...had to go to the hospital since I am allergic, my mom ( while riding a horse, disturbed a yellow jackets nest underground on a trail ride thru the woods...got stung pretty badly....nasty little creatures !

thanks Woodmort, I didn't know. I do have some that make the underground nests also but, never noticed if there was a color difference.

I just put up those cheap imitation paper wasp nests and they stay away. Some people just use paper bags tied up and hang those. They work too.
