Today was the day!!!

Here is my solution to them roosting on top of the nest boxes. I removed the top and cut the sides and divider at sharp angles to discourage roosting. I hope this works

I noticed a small crack in yesterday’s egg. I’m assuming it’s from hitting the wood bottom of the nesting box when it fell out of her butt. And no matter how much pine shavings I put down there they all seem to be kicked away come laying time. So I went and got some thick cushy fake grass this morning and installed it on the nest box floor. Fingers crossed

I placed a cardboard square from An amazon box on my nest box floor (12”x12”) and then also installed a 2x4 on edge acros the box. This means the nest box has a 3.5” lip and that holds in the pine shavings. That plus the cardboard piece on the bottom ensure no eggs will crack.

My entrance is only 8” tall now and I was worried about it when I installed that lip but it turns out to be fine!
