Tolbunt Polish

Merry Christmas everyone!! Does anyone have any Tolbunt eggs for sale? I know everyone's girls are on break right now, but I am hoping someone might have some eggs they can part with! I hope you guys have a safe and happy holiday season :)

I hope you had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year full of Tolbunts. I am also waiting for the good and responsible breeders to start offering eggs. Currently my only Tolbunts are two I hatched out this fall from the last offering of eggs for this year. If you want one for a pet that's one thing, but if you want to build a breeding stock watch your sources carefully….don't be so desperate that you buy from anyone offering eggs.

I too am hoping come spring to start breeding tolbunt polish. I'm thinking, for now, a REALLY small operation - just a quality pair to start with, see what they give me.

Question though, I have a friend with a WCB roo - she says he barely makes a peep. As my experience with Polish has only been hens, are Polish roos known for being a little quieter? (not a necessity, but definitely a plus!)

I have not heard that, but as you say it would be a plus. Make sure you don't rush your purchase especially if you want to breed. Someone that has put a lot of time and constant effort in to Polish including Tolbunts will have made sure they have a good healthy flock which will yield healthy hatching eggs.

Oh yeah, I'm in no hurry. I want to find two GOOD ones to start with, not the first two I can get my grubby hands on. *snicker* As tempting as it would be.

Its very tempting, but you will pay dearly for the mistake in upfront price for the eggs and then on the back side with a bad hatch or chicks you have to cull due to genetic issues. If it sounds like I'm, speaking from personal experience, I am. Breeders who show and or are certified are folks who go the extra to make sure their flock is healthy, fed well and are cared for, all of that means better off spring obviously.

Most of the Tolbunts now have very poor Polish type and very poor color. The problem seems to be that profit seems to override quality. Adding all these other colors will ultimately ruin the breed.

Yup I made the mistake of not listening to my gut an purchased eggs last month from someone who has not instilled trusting feeling. The results...1 out if 10 hatched and I had to cull it at a week of age as it showed cross beak. Wait wait and only order from researched active and responsible breeders. They will start offering in the spring.
