Tolbunt Polish

I hope so too. Right now I have one SL girl and three WCB girls, nothing more. . . What I need are either White Bearded girls, Gold Laced Girls, or. . . Of course. . . A tolbunt.

I want to keep some mahogany in there though, but my only mahogany carrying birds around here are Marans.

I sometimes wonder if crossing one to a Silver Laced, then to a Tolbunt could work.

Are you looking for bantam or standard white polish???

I might have some bantam bearded whites soon, I have gold laced also but all are bantam.

I have to agree with Sportsterjeep! A maran's body type is so totally different from a Polish. In addition, you'll be dealing with the egg & ear lobe color difference and the crest! There is much more, too ... All-in-all, I would really study it before I embarked upon that one!

Sorry you found out so abruptly that your tolbunt pair was in fact two roos.

Nice crest color ... I envy that! lol But, don't be surprised when they molt out with more body white. It usually happens that way. Nonetheless, you have two good birds with which to work!

I am curious, have you ever bred Polish before? If so, what colors are you familiar with and have you ever shown them?

From I have read on this thread, best results come from tolbunt to tolbunt or tolbunt to GL Polish breedings.

I'm VERY aware of all the different flaws and contrasts I'd run across if I did Marans. . . But right now, aside from SL and WCB Polish - They're the closest I can think to "proper" breeding. The rest of my birds wouldn't help with anything.

gretchen: I've never shown Polish before, and only bred WCB for one generation. I don't even know what Silver Laced, gentically, are (but I would love to hear from someone on that) So really, not too much experience there. I just listen around forums with what other people experience. I don't actually have too much experience with breeding Polish for the simple fact that non-hatchery birds, especially LF, are SO hard to come across in my experience. (at least, the colors I want) Crested Polish have always been a favorite of mine, but since I almost never find anyone with LF birds for sale, I've been sticking with breeds like Araucanas, Ameraucanas, and Marans.

josh44: Standard/LF. I'm just not really a bantam person.

One thing I'll say now that I'm very impressed on my boys with is that they never had such gleaming, solid white chests like everyone else youngins I've seen.

They'll get lighter with each molt. I posted early on on the thread (not sure what page, I have my preferences set to the maximum number of posts per page, so this whole thread is only 3 pages for me) with a couple of close-up pictures of both juvenile and adult Tolbunt plumage. They're poor-quality pictures, but you can get the idea. As for white chests...any birds I've ever had that hatch out with yellow "underfluff" are going to have some white on the chest/underside as teenagers. My Tolbunts have always gone through that stage of life with white chests, and none of them have white chests now. Same for my white-crested blacks, which don't have a single white feather anywhere on their bodies once they molt into their adult feathers. The white chests, that's just juvenile plumage.
