Whelp good news and bad news on the Sebastian front.

The good news is my little buddy is safe from predators and bad weather for the time being! (A heat lamp was added after the picture was taken)

The bad news is that I got a better look at his wounds, after administering his pain meds.

Honestly everything else looks fairly okay except for his underneath his tail. I think this must be where he hit the pavement. I took a close look and there were tiny maggots/worms crawling around in there. I sprayed it with the Vetranix wound care (or however you spell it) as best as I could. What else should I do? Will the maggots survive that or will it kill them? Will they eat away any dead/diseased flesh and maybe be a good thing? Oh god is he dying?
GET ALL MAGGOTS OFF ASAP, they can kill him! Call your vet and talk about flystrike. Common house fly maggots eat live and dead tissue. Not treated he will die. This is very serious!

Hi new quarters look good.

Edited again:
Email wound pictures to vet.

I sent the pictures to my vet. She told me to pick out the maggots tomorrow and clean it out with spray. I told her I sprayed it with the maggots on and how tiny they are and she said it should be fine till tomorrow. My girlfriend is coming out tomorrow afternoon a few hours before I am off work to start the process.

I just feel overwhelmed like every step forward is met with two steps back.

Hello There,

I don't know anything about turkeys... So I'm terribly sorry that I can not help. But wonderful job to you and your girlfriend for rescuing him, not many folks do that and that's what we need more of in this crazy world! :highfive: You are doing a great job and receiving great advice from all the BYCer's on this thread.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens too! Great to have you and have a good time. :frow

I agree with the permethrin for maggots. He would be probably to large to soak like we do with chickens who have fly strike, so you will probably need to treat him by applying things to his rear. SWAT ointment from feed stores contains permethrin, as well as Screwworm spray. You could probably even use 5-10%permethrin spray and use plain neosporin ointment or even vaseline on top to smother any other maggots. I love how everyone is trying so hard to help this fella.

Does the stuff you put on him have any permethrin or such in it? You will likely need something like that to kill all the maggots.

New digs look comfy though. Great job!

Thank you! I am hoping he does better in there! Plus I can close him off from any flies/bugs outside.

I'll be going back and buying some permethrin spray tomorrow. My girlfriend is headed over after she gets off work in the afternoon to start picking out maggots until I can get back and join her. It should be a romantic evening, maybe we'll break open a bottle of wine and put on some music as we clean puss and maggots out of the wound! lol

I just don't want him to have survived the slaughterhouse, being tossed out of a truck beside a highway, and everything else he's been through just to die from some stupid bugs.

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but the maggots (I call them that for lack of a better word) don't so much look like the maggots I'm used to seeing. They're much much smaller (maybe 1mm in size?) - not sure if they just hatched or what though.

I do love how everybody is helping, too! I can't tell everybody in here how much I appreciate it!
