Turkey fell off slaughter truck- Rescued but needs help!

Do you have any idea where he might have originally come from? I mean, did someone actually see the transport truck? I'm wondering how he even made his way off the truck, if it was a load going to the slaughterhouse. Or could he (and his not-so-fortunate friend) have been dumped? Is there a slaughter place nearby? Doesn't really matter, I guess I'm just curious, he got really lucky that someone saw him and called you.

The latest picture does look like improvement. I think your thread title really grabbed a lot of attention, which is a great thing! Sebastian will have a big following if he recovers!

Color looking much better. You have gotten great advice. And you have access to a helpful vet, which is so great, and so hard to come by. I so want to raise my own turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas, especially after seeing first hand how awful they look at the time of slaughter. Much rather eat a healthy, happy, well taken care of bird.

The reality is we tend to give our birds, regardless of lineage or breed a tremendously better life. I have a friend who grows BB whites, they grow out for 14 weeks and live 11 weeks on beautiful pasture. When they come in for processing they are just beautiful birds.

Unfortunately we didn't see any truck, I just got the call from my mother that she saw a "scared turkey along the highway" and knew that we would be down to rescue the little (big) guy. It wasn't until later that we saw the other one. From what we figure, they were probably stuffed in there two/cage and one of the cages weren't latched properly.

I'm glad that his plight is grabbing attention, because any/all help I can get I need! And I hope to be giving Sebastian updates here well into the future!

I'm no wuss when it comes to eating meat, hunting, etc. But seeing how these two birds looked really gives me pause when thinking about the whole factory farming system. It makes me queasy now. I think this will definitely affect my meat purchasing habits in the future....

I think it would affect a lot of people if they looked into the conditions meat birds and egg layers are kept in. Most people have no idea. And Ive had people turn their noses up at eating fresh eggs Ive offered them! No thank you, they like their eggs to come from the store like they are supposed to. LOL

That's what my kids said.
