The comments about the maggots are bugging me. It's my understanding that the maggots used in human and veterinary medicine are not the type of maggots we see in fly strike.

Please read these posts by Folly's Place. Trust me when I say she knows more about fly strike than most people.

That was my concern too

Oh god it's like all my optimism died reading through just one thread. I really hope the permethryn killed whatever was hiding in his hole. But I will be attacking it again tonight!

:fl Ask your vet if it would be appropriate to start him something like Clavamox, Cephalexin, Amoxicillin, or maybe even penicillin.

Here is a post from @DylansMom
"My turkey hen had a really bad injury on her side last summer and we didn't find it until well after the flies had.

We cleaned it up with dish soap and water in a squirt bottle, applied Swat to get the maggots out ( and they practically threw themselves off after the Swat was put on), we then used iodine in a spray bottle and spayed it everyday, then we would apply triple antibiotic every other day, we also gave her an oral antibiotic mixed up in scrambled eggs everyday. She healed up good as new, she is almost 10 now and is a pet.
