Two Husky sled dogs wiped out my entire flock of chickens!!!!

Wow. So the idiot owner fully admits to just letting the dogs out to do as they please while he's gone at work. You mentioned these are sled dogs, not just pets, and I'm sure he knows full well a Husky's behavior and natural tendencies. Especially since you've brought them back several times in the past.

I hope he is made to pay up. Maybe it will be better if it ends up in small claims so you can also charge him for all the damaged fencing. Does your small claims court have a monetary limit? I don't remember what it is here but if you go over a certain dollar amount you have to sue and take them to court which of course costs a lot more.

Good luck, hope you at least get reimbursed. Poor chickens, they really suffered through all that.

You know the saying-a picture is worth a thousand words--well, it will hold true here if you have to go to court-so make sure you get pics of everything they tore up and anything that pertains to this tragedy---and if you have before pics of the coops and runs that will help too. Judges love pics......they speak volumes-can't lie out of a picture. This is all just in case it goes that far-if he is smart it won't. Good luck!!!

Sorry for your loss.

I'm surprised at the impression that Americans have about Canadian gun control, I find it quite reasonable. There is no problem in using a gun to protect your livestock, crops, home, or farm against dogs, bears, deer, etc. However, you need to use the proper gun. Like the OP said, the RCMP and Conservation officers really like it when you choose to use your shotgun, and really don't like idiots that use high-powered rifles close to other properties.

Not sure about the Yukon, but i think in BC small claims goes up to $5,000. I bet the dog owner pays up without going to small claims though.

Ryan.........the thing we do here as far as guns go is use the one that will kill instantly. Most times a .22 won't so the .223 has to be used. I use a .300 mag also but not on coon. One rifle I wish I had back is the .22 Hornet. I think that would be a good round for all the varmits I would have to concern myself with. I have a carry permit also and do carry everywhere I go. Just two different attitudes towards guns I reckon.

Did the rain cause something to short out your fence? Sorry - just a little confused on that point since usually the fence has a higher "kick" to it when the ground is wet. (personal experience... )

here. I finally got fed up and built a live catch trap large enough to hold a german shepard or rottweiler with room to spare. Cost me $300 in materials, but heavy and tough. Worked great for me!

Off to court we go! I contacted the owner four times since the 30 day grace period elapsed and he keeps on saying that "tomorrow, tomorrow I'll come by and pay up" but never shows up. Now that it's the 21st I've been more than accommodating to this guy. It's $50.00 to file a case in small claims court so I'm putting together the paperwork and heading down there right now.

I'll keep you posted on how this continued mess turns out. Even if he does show up with a check, I could probably bounce it all the way to the bank at this point.
