I am so sorry. Huskys are very strong minded as we have found out with our lab husky mix even at 4 years old shes alot to handle and cannot be trusted with our chickens.

OMG so sad!! I just went threw the same thing, dog got into our turkey habitat killing one and pulling feathers out of 3, was a sad sight, when you raise your flock from day olds and for them to get wiped out is very sad, sorry for your loss and I hope thoes dogs gone, (if ya know what I mean

Thanks for the condolences everyone and also for the tips on what the laws are. I sent the RCMP officer over on the morning of the attack to deliver a bill to to owner and gave him 30 days to pay up. He came over with the officer and got his dead dog which had a collar and tag on it ( you'd think that if you went through the trouble of putting a collar on the dogs that you'd put them on a chain!!!!) At the time the owner said he'd take care of everything in the presence of the officer and my wife so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt and if there's not $2600.00 cash in my had by August 16th then we're going to small claims court and the bill will be higher because I'm going to factor in the fencing and other things that I originally didn't consider. All I expect is to be paid for the birds that his dogs killed since they were already to be sold two days after his dogs attacked them all. If we slept another 20 seconds then they would have been into our turkeys as well. They had all of the wire torn on the front and back of their run and tore out all of the staples but miraculously didn't turn the front door lever 90 degrees to get in. They did tear the head off of one turkey and the wing off another right through the wire and we didn't notice the wingless turkey or dead one was in the cage for half of a day because we were cleaning up the rest of the carnage. I called a local dog team owner several miles from here who has 150 dogs for sled dog tours and they came and picked up the dead birds. I imagine they had to grind them all up to feed them to the dogs and then I removed the area where the chickens were and tilled the remainder into the ground. I checked the Ontario laws for repayment and I've mentioned this to the bylaw officer here in Yukon so he's looking into it as well. Having to shoot the dog wasn't an issue from a legal POV since I have a firearms certificate and used a shotgun that posed no threat to the neighbors. My wife was pretty concerned about ll of this as you can imagine but what choice do you have when the dogs have all of your chickens dead and they're tearing at the turkeys in the pouring rain at 4:00 am ? I shot a bear here in the yard several years ago that had brain worms and no fear of people and wouldn't go away after it ate all of our rabbits and chickens twice in one season but I never thought I'd have issues with domestic animals. It all comes down to the dog owners like you've all said. They're like a loaded gun and you have to take responsibility for that at all times. When the owner came by he said that he let the dogs out for more than 24 hours during the rain and went to work! I'll keep you posted on how this all works out. Thanks again for your support on this everyone. It's pretty hard on a marriage and everything else that goes with it.
