ug! School requiring chicken pox vaccine... what next - flu shot? Rant

Adults who had chicken pox as children are far more likely to experience shingles at some point in their lives. Chicken pox is not generally dangerous (in most cases) but doesn't avoiding having a sick child and the possibility of shingles in old age worthwhile?

They told me as of now it is required for a child to attend kindergarten. It wasnt when my son started school about 7yrs ago.

They lied.

Every parent has the option to not vaccinate their child for religious or personal reasons. Schools may tell you it is required, but every state has exemptions in their laws. There may be a form to sign or a letter to send but it is still your choice whether or not to vaccinate.

You would think they would be required to inform you of that. They more or less told me,"No shots,no school." She recieved her shots that day, she done fine with them, thank goodness. I didn't like it, I still don't like it, but what's done is done. And yes, there is positives in the shot, but this is not what I see as a shot that should be mandatory. Whats next?? The gardisil (sp?) shot?

the benifits have to out way the risks.... the risk for not getting the shot is they may be sick for a few days/weeks or if they get the shot they may have a brain defect for life......

I chose to let the doctor give my daughter a chicken pox vaccine. She has (briefly) been around others who had the chicken pox and she never caught it.

I remember 2 weeks of absolute misery when I had the chicken pox as a child, not to mention the horrible scar they left right between my eyes.

My daughter had no problems from the vaccine.

Of course cause all our 13 year olds are sexually active...of course they make it seem like you need it but fail to say if you are not having sex you won't catch these things...

Sorry, that case was lost in a big way. Autism is not caused by vaccines. Even if it were, mercury (what was thought to be the culprit) has not been used for many years in those vaccines. Chicken pox does kill, mostly as shingles in adults (granted, not often). Whether to vaccinate for it or not is a personal choice. But, I would like to point out that vaccines have saved millions of lives through the years, as well as agonizing disfigurements. Look back in history when polio was rampant. It was a terrifying time for many. Or pertussis.

Another thing to consider is that viruses/bacteria are continuously evolving. At any point it could develop into a more destructive illness. Whether or not chicken pox warrants mandatory vaccines is up for debate, and you should be able to not get it. However, the link to Autism from vaccines was refuted in further studies, and that should not be a reason to not be vaccinated. There may be other reasons, it's true, but not that one.

If you don't get your kids vaccinated and they get sick your should not expect to get any tax payer funded treatment.

Our school district has MANY, MANY illegal alien children. They won't allow a waiver to be signed. Either you vaccinate, or your child doesn't go to their schools... we had an outbreak of measles a year or so ago and they got tough.

30 years ago my nephew was 2 months old. Got vaccinated one day, and he died the next.... they can only figure it was due to the vaccinations.

I actively searched for chicken pox for 5 years. Had a pox party and got done with that one. Lifetime immunity

. It's actually good for adults to come in contact with kids with the pox. That's what helps their immune system to remember and make more antibodies thus keeping the shingles down.. I'm scared of what will happen if we loose that "natural booster" o yeah,,, they made a shingles vaccine to cover us for that too.
