IF the vaccines are so wonderful and provide so much protection...then those who are vaccinated should have nothing to fear from those who are unvaccinated.
Unless you're a cancer patient on chemo, whose immune system no longer functions normally. Unless you're HIV+. Unless you're very elderly, or have dearly beloved relatives and friends who are very elderly and could catch something from you during a visit (not getting sick yourself doesn't mean you can't be a carrier). Unless you're an organ or bone marrow transplant recipient. Unless you're a hepatitis patient, whose immune system is blown out from dealing with the hepatitis. Unless you're genetically immunodeficient. Unless you're on heavy-duty immunosuppressant drugs for asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, any type of lymphoma, lupus, Crohn's Disease, MS, Sjogren's disease...Gosh, that's an awful lot of people who can get seriously ill from infectious diseases, who rely on herd immunity to keep infections few and far between.
I think an awful lot of folks have forgotten how truly awful most of those infectious diseases were. My grandmother told me that the reason she had so many children (more than she and grandad could afford, really) was because in her day, it wasn't unusual for
half your kids to die of infections. Yep,
half. And back in the olden days, they most certainly did have plenty of fresh air and exercise and farm-fresh food--my mother won't let me hear the end of it, how terrible the food is in these modern times. Honestly, seriously, ask your parents and grandparents and great-grandparents: They'll tell you all about the hot summers when no one could go swimming because of polio deaths due to the public swimming pools, the children and adults who died or "disappeared" to go to sanitariums and polio wards, the old TB sanitariums where you got sent because there was no treatment except to wait until you got better or died, being lined up for the annual chest Xray every year in school and the kids who you didn't see for years after the Xray showed TB.
Requiring vaccines, as well as quarantine enforcement, is perfectly legal. And ethical: See the case of
Mary Mallon for an explanation why. She made 33 people sick and killed three people, after she was told that she was carrying typhoid fever.
Also note, when it comes to money:
Price of actual vaccine dose for DTaP, paid to pharma: $1
Price of antibiotic course to treat pertussis or tetanus: $250-400, depending on whether the bacteria is resistant, hospitalization requirements, etc.
It's not in the pharmaceutical companies' financial interest to make vaccines. Often they agree to do so only to develop other technologies associated with vaccine production, which can be used in other manufacturing processes, sort of like how Ford agrees to build tanks for the Army so they can try out a new motor design that can later be used in F350s.
And finally, we know most of the causes of autism, and it's definitely NOT vaccines. It's 1. genetics 2. diagnostic criteria changes, so that a lot of kids who used to be called "mentally retarded" and "developmentally disabled" or, heck, "going through a phase" are now being classified as "autistic."
Disclaimer: I had pertussis as an adult from a non-vaccinated adult. It was three months of unrelenting misery, at a time when I did not have a job with paid sick days. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If you think that all those nasty infectious diseases aren't really that bad, try coughing up blood, vomiting, having charley horses in your chest and stomach every 20 minutes, and even breaking ribs from coughing.
For three months. Get vaccinated, ferthaluvvagod!
