Unknown Baby Chick

Hey BYC!

We bought four new chicks from a feed supply store 5 weeks ago and one of them was supposed to be a barred rock pullet. She has not developed any barring and I am concerned she is not a barred rock at all... any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It looks like a young barred rock to me, they are black at first....does she have any real feathers yet? If she's not a barred rock she will probably be a black hen when grown.

black and white photos are really difficult to see color with

Barred birds will always feather in barred as chicks. She looks like either a black Australorp, black Jersey Giant or Black Sex Link.

What color are the bottoms of her feet? I'm thinking she is a Jersey Giant.

If her feet are yellow she is JG. If they are white/pink she is an Australorp.

Lovely! Your JG doesn’t look too “giant”. Bonnie is definitely the smallest in this brood of same aged chicks, so I wonder how big she’ll actually be.
