Urgent - Duck attacked by hawk, wounded on head

Well I tried giving her the tuna mashed up, touched it, then shook her head, then attempted to eat my pinky :idunno Tried putting it in her water, hasn't touched it. She is drinking the electrolyte water that I have put separate. Hopefully when she gets hungrier she will eat the tuna. Truth is, I don't think any of my ducks would eat the tuna :D I'll probably have better luck with salmon if I can get my hands on some.

Lol. My ducks will knock each other over to be the first one to eat any kind of fish. But that is when they are well. No biggie. You are doing everything you can for her. How’s she doing this morning?

It rained last night, so found lots of juicy worms this morning. She gobbled them all down. Still not eating anything else. She is scratching her wounds with her feet (which I'm going to say is a good sign since usually wounds will itch when they are drying) so we put a cotton ball around her nails and wrapped them up so she can still itch but it won't disturb the wounds.

Ingenious!

Did she root for them herself or did you get the worms for her? That’s wonderful she is eating them. They are pretty soft too.:celebrate

Considering the trauma and the injuries she has, I don't think there's any harm in letting her be picky while she recovers... give her what she will eat, at least she is eating something...

That full black in her eye is because that pupil is completely and fully dilated... again, I suspect some brain damage... hawk talons are extremely long, narrow and sharp at the tips... what may look like a tiny wound on her head is most likely deeper than you think... watch the scabs on her head and if any swelling in her face or head area occurs, drain from the scabs...

Yes, I am glad she is drinking and at least eating something. She's like a sick child lol :D Also she is trying to preen herself, and is able to reach her oil gland with her bill.

So is there any hope for the eye?

Unkown... unless you have x-rays or scans done, there's no way to tell extent of damages she has suffered... she may be able to see out if it, but not having control of pupil restriction/dilation may cause it to be more sensitive to light, etc...

Also, as of tonight, she has decided she will not eat corn - only peas, which she will gobble down with happiness :idunno. I have never seen a duck refuse corn lol :D :D
