Alcohol and hydrogen peroxide are both damaging to cells on the wound bed - they should not be used. Saline and Chlorexdine are better alternatives.

Do you have go-to products for infections? And do you have any advice about the color of his poop? Most importantly I need to know if he needs immediate vet attention or if I can help him.

Veterycin, blukote, colloidal silver. Tractor supply and pet stores will have antibiotic options (fish mox) I don't know dosages though.

Blukote is similar to veterycin, should be able to find it at the same store. Most health foods stores will have colloidal silver. It is a good antibacterial, can be used topically or internally.

I'm no novice, been working with poultry for like six years. Have dealt with most things. But this is a bit more nerve wracking. Why without pain med?

Just the neosporin w/o pain med. Not sure why, maybe a skin irritant? A baby aspirin could help. I don't know the dose tho.

you are in my prayers. i have cared for wounded feathered babies and it is a crushing pain.

by the way, my spouse told me when he moved in with me that I needed to tell my house insurance company that I have a dog because (although it does not change my premiums) they cover the costs of the dog attacking a neighbour's dog (or other such behaviour)

you might be able to get the neighbour's insurance to pay for the vet.

Maybe call YOUR insurance company and ask them how insurance works in your area before speaking with the neighbour. If it is 'no big deal' then maybe you can have that conversation calmly before you tell them you want that thing put down.
