Very poorly 6 month amber white please help!

The amount one tubes depends on the bird's size and how well it can tolerate feedings. I have a RIR hen that I can stuff 180ml into twice a day, but she's used to being tubed, so her crop can handle it. Please don't try this, this is way more than most can handle!

A basic guideline for amount is 30ml per kilogram every 6-8 hours, but what I would do if I were you is give the 30ml, then check her crop. Can you feel food in it? Is there a slight bulge or a big bulge. If there is a slight bulge, try adding another 15 and keep doing that until there is a moderate bulge. If you can feel food in the esophagus, that's too much.

I don't explain things very well, so be patient with me, lol, and ask if I've written something that's not crystal clear.

Yes in the UK and in a place in northumberland which is near scotland and what is available is pretty rubbish.... i was after the wormer which was only available in America for about 3 days before i realised i couldn't obtain it here...hence the one i'm using.  I just don't know what's wrong with her? and can't find links which sound even similar.  She is doing the head moving thing, stretching it up and to the side (not gasping, nor rattling) but like she is trying to reorganise her crop...from what i've read on here? i've never used the tube on anything before :( and have only had the girls for 6 months...but you give really clear instructions and i want her to get better...

The swaying of the neck would be her adjusting her crop. Is it flat in the morning? Hopefully its not blocked.

name="Rachael23" url="/t/842165/very-poorly-6-month-amber-white-please-help#post_12459312"]Hi i've just been and given her warm pellet mash (will pick up probiotics tomorrow), i took her out the crate and she went to move away but i was stroking her and she ate two tiny bits (her legs gave way twice) and then she put herself back on her perch in the coop.  so i've turned the light and radio off now (its pitch dark outside).  she is on day 3 of a worming programme flubernet (its really difficult to buy wormer for chickens here, i had to get that one from the vet).  When i realised she had lice i diatomed all the other birds (they had no lice on them but i gave them a good going over)...they all seem totally fine and are their usual demanding selves lol

I really recommend dusting all the birds for mites with the sevins dust as someone else recommend. The DE earth helps but does not completely get rid of the mites or lice.

hello pwand and thank you for ur comments :), there is a small lump at front of neck constantly but my girlfriend insists its her breast bone...she is v thin. she has now stopped th adjusting swaying movement and her breath doesnt smell...im going to check out the dust u mention..if i can get in th uk wld u suggest doing it now or do u think she is being harrassed enough at th moment? thank you :)

ok for whatever reason its not allowing me to upload..iv fed her again this morning. she is still exhaused and legs not strong at all. she has been itching her comb so i have redone her legs and comb for mites using the spray. her poo isnt good and post tubing was just yellowy water. she will only eat pomegranet seeds. i will continue to feed 30-35 ml every 5 hrs as she was fine with tht yesterday. her last feed is at about 6.30pm..then shes done for th night but has access to water (with tonic) & some food. at this point im not terribly optimistic :/.

Yellow poop is bad, very bad. For me it's usually meant blackhead, but once it was Marek's. The crop it located on the right side of the breast bone and should be soft to the touch, just like the food you're feeding.

Treatment for blackhead is Flagyl (metronidazole) which we can't get her in the US OTC as a tropical fish medication called Fish Zole (250mg tablets) or API General Cure (250mg powder pack) and Meditrich (100mg tablets) for pigeons
