Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

And I went shooting on Saturday for the first time. I shot a 22, a 9, and a 40cal. I did pretty good on my first try... This was the 40cal:

NUTRITION (Addictive Junk Food)

For those of you interested in what goes into our processed foods, this article from the NYT is really interesting.

It's amazing what greed brings forth!!! People get freaked out over all the gun shootings the media plasters everywhere, but not enough people are up in arms about what our food is doing to us!!!! It's processed food that is kiiling more people than just about anything but the rich schmucks in the huge corporations just pay people off to look the other way or downplay research.
Demon is on a raw diet because he's allergic to dog food. Corn, soy, wheat and "unknown" The unknown leaves me scared to treat him. I usually use cheese as treats with him. or even cooked egg diced up.
I still morn the loss of Duke (my first dog) and Chance (my second dog) and am upset for rehoming Buddy (my nieces dog when she was living with me). Buddy started growling at me when my niece left and didn't come back. Found him a new home and he hasn't had any issues. Think he blamed me for my niece not coming back or something.

I am kind of glad now to be getting my mother in laws dog. Because it's set in stone we're getting him. His name is Buddy (sort of bothers me i've already had a buddy). Well I am glad to be getting Oscar a playmate so that when demon does go Oscar wont be so lonely. I know he will still morn the loss of his brother, But i think it will be easier for him to have another dog around when it happens.
The liver treats that were mentioned are just that...freeze-dried liver and nothing else.
I hope Demon stays with you a lot longer but when he goes, may he go very peacefully.

Fingers are crossed-about Buddy. Hopefully he adjusts well to your home with minimal problems. Your previous posts about his issues is a little worrisome. I'm sure with love, care and attention he will do well!!

Does anyone know where you can purchase leg bands for showing? I want to go to the Monroe show, but didn't think I was going to be able to go since I had no birds. Now, with my Wyandotte's, I can actually go to shows this spring. Surprisingly, they didn't have leg bands when I bought them this weekend and I need leg bands before Friday when entries must be mailed in.

Generally, the dosage of supplements added to foods isn't high enough to be effective. It might be worth a try to supplement with CoQ10 and taurine.

So sorry to hear about the diagnosis. I treasure the last few months I had with my Lab. It was a very special time and he was very happy being the "King of the House" and getting all my attention. I pulled a futon mattress into the living room so he could sleep with me every night (he had his leg amputated to get rid of the cancer). He loved it.

Just try to enjoy what time you have left. There will be plenty of time to mourn later. (((Hugs)))
Taurine comes from meat. It's not added to it. And I don't feed kibble. I wouldn't want to over dose Demon on it. I am going to look into CoQ10 though.
I'm trying to enjoy what time demon has left. I'm hoping he lives a lot longer without pain. I really hope it doesn't come to me having to put him to sleep.

you can buy legbands on e-bay. Not sure if you could get those before friday though.

I usually get them from a breeder - but I wouldn't be seeing her until Saturday so I would be a day late to mail in the entry. I don't know if that could work.

You can add taurine as a supplement, though. Generally, any formulated diet, even raw ones, won't have therapeutic doses. It might help to add it, so he's getting more than a low maintenance dose.
