well i did it !AGIAN! i eggs and placed them in the incubator TUNE IN

Well, you are close to hatch time, so I would say grab the egg all the way around, well as much as your hand can go around it and see if it is warmer on one side or not because the chick would be sitting in the pipping position so you may grab the egg and think wow it got cool. Mine felt cooler too, it's a thick shell so I never worried about it.

If by any means you don't get a hatch, don't be discouraged because it does happen. I know it's such a let down since you only have the one egg and most Emu auctions are for 2 or 3 at a time anyway. Good rule of thumb, I know with all other eggs the typical thought process is to not hold hatching eggs for more than 7 days because they lose viability, but with the Emus you have to think that usually the Emu male who sits and hatches the eggs has more than one mate, but not a huge amount. He will usually have at the most a few in the wild and each hen will lay an egg in his nest. Emus normally lay with 2 days in between each egg, so by the end of a week you're lucky to have 3 and Emus usually sit on quite a big clutch. So you could work with a breeder and go ahead and assure them you're ok waiting for them to get 3 before shipping. This way you have a better chance at a hatched out chick.

If you do want to try again before their laying season is done, let me know as I am good friends with an Ostrich farmer out here in Southern Calif. While he never wanted to really raise Emus, he ended up with tons of them as people needed to rehome them. I haven't talked with him in a while but I am sure he has eggs flowing and could easily ship you some. His prices are very fair and my first batch from him was 4 and I managed to hatch all 4. I am just down the freeway from him so they went ground and arrived the same day he shipped......so I wouldn't expect as good of results as I got, but his birds are great.

Keep us all informed as to what happens and should you want the contact info for my friend, let me know and I will send that to you. I don't think his website mentions Emus, but just ask him.

I'm sorry to hear. I feel for you, but you obviously did well because you did get one to pip.
Definitely try again, you are going to love the Emus.
