Dogs get loose by accident sometimes, and that sucks. But if it is repeat offenders, the owners should definitely be confronted with the cost of damages. Accompanied by the sherrif if need be!
I live in CT and don't have a stray dog problem (lots of other wild predators, though - our birds are locked up tight every night). But I lived in SC at one time. We were out in the country and the people there thought it was their 'right' to let their dogs roam. I didn't have chickens then, but I still didn't like having roaming dogs bothering my (show) dogs and my cats.

I really like the electric fence idea! Brilliant! lol

Come to find out, they are strays... I'm not the only one who has had problems with them. They killed 4 of our neighbors (a few houses over) goats about a month and a half ago... Maybe it's a chupacabra!!! At least then it would be cool.

Aw that's terrible! I'm so sorry for your loses.

That's really too bad. I'm so glad we don't have any dog issues with our chickens....right now anyway!

I would call the local shelter if I were you;(one that doesn't put them to sleep if no one takes them). that way those dogs can be caught and maybe trained. Maybe they can find good families in a shelter.

I hope you find some or all of the missing ones; and so sorry again.

I feel that feral dogs like this are a danger not only to chickens and goats but small children as well. And there are enough other dogs at the pound being put down every day you can get for a pet rather than risk trying to retrain these. If you get a chance, good luck on putting them out of our misery.

Im sorry for your losses. I dread the day I come on scene like that. We try to do proactive prevention, but things can happen in ways you just dont expect.

You would be surprised at how many "strays" are actually pets that constantly roam. Do the dogs look well fed? I would still keep on trying to find the owners. If they exist, they owe you.
