We're all hatchin'! Congrats, everyone!

for everyone, like myself, who STILL doesn't have any progross..... If I don't see anything by bedtime (which I'm starting to think I won't) then hopefully I'll wake up to a happy surprise!

I just went back in to check and i had a bowl of water set in the incubator to keep the humidity up and there was a chick in it. I had to open the bator to get her out quick! THE CHICK DRAMA BEGINS. The chicks seems okay, just soaking now, not to mention i had to open the incubator!!!

Aww, ChickenLittle, I thought you had a few pips too
sad.png

I'm telling u what, the ones that I'm the most worried about aren't moving at all, and the pips aren't getting any bigger...but then, while I was watching and worrying and thinking of an excuse for opening the bator, I heard a tiny little crackly sound and right in front of my eyes ONE PIPPED!!! I saw the shell suddenly go from perfect to having a tiny little cracked area!!! Two of the eggs I thought were not gonna make it are pipped, so now I have 4!!!

Don't give up, guys!!! When you least expect it you'll see them pip!! Not only that, but if your temps were a little low they'll hatch later....Now I'm even more worried, cause I see 4 with pips and they haven't made any progress....I wonder how hard it would be to rig a pair of gloves into the side of the bator....???

I would buy one if they made them...i can't tell you how many times i have wanted to open the incubator...then the "swimming" chick forced me...

Cjean, please remember one thing...DO NOT OPEN THE INCUBATOR!!! Especially when you have pips. that can mess with the humidity and can kill the chicks in the egg.

Jen, Instead of using a bowl of water...it would be alot easier and safer to use a clean wet wash cloth.

to Lux...I doubt I'll be able to sleep tonight tho. At least I have chicks that just came in this am from Ideal to pass the time.

LOL, you don't have to tell me....I know, I know...

I'm so excited!!! And soooo impatient.....Hmmm....when was the last time you candled, Lux and ChickenLittle??? I candled mine on day 17, just the white eggs cause the others were too dark.....I saw them moving, so I was hopeful about the brown ones too. What about the humidity??? Is your hygrometer dependable?? I was using 2 Acurite thermometer/hygrometers before I started incubating, and it seemed like no matter how much water I added I couldn't get the humidity up, but when I opened the bator I could feel the humidity. I got 2 cheap hygrometers from walmart, and sure enough the Acurite ones were wrong. I think they tell humidity on the unit, not on the probe...the probe (I'm guessing) is just for temp, unless mine is the only one like that....Good luck!!!

When I set my 'bator up yesterday with the sponges, maxi-pad and washcloth, I removed the bowls of water for that very reason. I knew it would be just my luck that one would drown!

My other four eggs aren't showing any signs of pipping yet, but I'm hopeful they will. It's a waiting game from here on out, but I refuse to open the 'bator to remove the chick that hatched this afternoon; I know s/he will be fine for a few days and able to live off the yolk sack.

Hang in there Lux! We're ALL in this together!!

Also, remember everyone: DO NOT OPEN YOUR INCUBATOR! You don't want to kill the chicks that haven't hatched yet

Now to up the humidity in the other 'bator and get ready for the Coturnix to hatch

Wish I had thought of that a little bit sooner! HA! I thought the bowl was surely tall enough, good grief the little guys are barely walking...i don't even know how the heck she could have gotten in there!!!

The whole thing is highly suspect. I believe a sibling must have it in for her already. I mean really, pushing his brand new sister into the water bowl!?!?!?!?

ETA: sounds like something my older sons would do to each other...
