One more has a huge pip so i am sure in a few hours she will be out none of the others have pips but we will leave them for a few days. These that hatched are araucanas

Hooray! Happiness all around on the chicks and pips that have come out!

I too had an assortment of silkie chicks. Out of 12 eggs (white, buff, black, cuckoo, splash) I have had 1 of each color minus the splash come out so far... one extra buff or white popped out as well... I'm dissapointed that the splash didn't hatch as that was the one i was really rooting for but am really excited about getting a nice mix of colors otherwise

everyone else is just hanging out in the incubator waiting for me to be brave enough to rescue them and put them into the brooder... probably tonight...

A couple of months ago my husband and I bought 8 pullets and a rooster, er rather 6 pullets and 3 roosters.

The seller was kind enough to switch out the roosters with green egg laying pullets so now we really do have 8 layers. 2 began to sit about 3 weeks ago and now from one hen we have 4 black and white chicks (1 from a green egg!) and the other has 3 chicks with one pipped (2 from green eggs!). We are having so much fun... the first thing I do whenever I get home or wake up in the morning is go see the chooks.
We now have bought 2 dozen purebreds and we borrowed an incubator from a neighbor so we are in. 100% backyard chicken farmers.

no, just the two that hatched, and 7 eggs left that haven't even pipped yet.... about how long should I leave them to try and hatch? a few days?

Dear ChickenLittle 32,

I noticed from your pics that you still hae the turner in your incubator. You should take it out three days before the chicks begin to hatch - they shouldn't be turned the last three days. There is a big danger of chicks being caught and squished in between the rack rows.
Congrats on your new chicks!

I still have 3 eggs that I know had chicks in them that have no pips. I had originally said I would get rid of them today, but I can't bring myself to do it (I keep thinking maybe they just need a little more time). I'm going to wait till tomorrow night, if no pips...i will get rid of them...

I have to clean my incubator for eggs coming in the middle of next week.

I don't know what the right amount of time to wait is though...I've heard two extra days, since the rest of mine hatched on Friday...waiting till Monday seems reasonable, as that would be three days.

Thanks for the advice...but I have it unplugged. I have a staggerred hatch and don't want the chicks disturbing the eggs that aren't ready.

I still just have the one lonely baby

The other four eggs are showing no signs of doing anything - no internal pips - nothing. They were originally "due" to hatch today, but since my other baby hatched Friday, I'm wondering how much longer I should leave them. I know there was life in at least 3 of them (had my doubts about the fourth) and not sure what happened...darnit!

I sure hope my Coturnix eggs do better than these chick eggs have...
