Sorry quiltnchic. I know what you mean, I candled two 'quitters' yesterday and they were obviously not full of living chick, so I sent my kids outside to dispose of them. They broke them open and saw one had never developed and the other had a chick that probably stopped around day 15-16.
I have four left in the 'bator right now, their 5 compadres hatched last night. I'm giving them 24 more hours to pip, and if nothing then I'll candle and go from there. My hatch status on these eggs were good for the local eggs, and almost exactly 30% for all the ones I had shipped.
Started > hatched
6 local RIR eggs > hatched 5 healthy chicks
17 shipped Delaware eggs > hatched 6 chicks
6 shipped Welsummer eggs > hatched 2 chicks
10 shipped Buff Brahma eggs > hatched 3 chicks but one has a neck problem, I don't think he'll make it.
So 5/6 of the local eggs and 11/33 shipped eggs hatched.
I'm glad I had a good hatch from the local eggs, that makes me feel like the low hatch on the others was more likely shipping issues than my incubator inexperience. The sixth local egg never developed at all.
