What breed

Production Reds/Sex Links are typically a commercial chicken developed by crossing consistent and strong layers of some common other breeds to get a 'hybrid'. Every hatchery calls them something different, but the crossings are usually the same for each. For example Rhode Island Red x Leg Horn, New Hampshire Red x Leg Horn. Not being an actual breed themselves. Really great birds with tons of personality, though I find the ones I've had can be a bit aggressive depending on what cross they are.
Mine isn't aggressive, but she doesn't like being held. She will lay next to me on the couch or on my lap and tolerate being petted, but she doesn't like it when my hands are around her body/wings. She likes to have the option to get up and walk away.

Every since they where hatched, they'd 'let' me put my hand in their brooder and lift them out of it so they could run around. When I I tried to put them back into that brooder, it's like a banshee was yelling in my ear..lol

Mine are very tame. I find this breed the tamest and friendliest of the lot but everyones chickens are different ;)
People OFTEN mistake confidence for friendliness.

Production Red are NOT a sexlinked bird. They are sold by Cackle hatchery.

If they are crossed with leghorn or something like that they are probably (and I don't know this for sure) but known under another breed name. Anything crossed with a WHITE leghorn should be white (in theory) because it is the dominant color.

Anyways, we are always learning something new here! :thumbsup

Ugh, I kept my production red because she was "friendly" despite being broody raised. Now I have to stop that witch from mounting and humping my splash Silkie female. I don't let my boys bald my ladies and all be darned if I'm gonna let another girl cause it. :hmm She is a pullet, so I will give time to correct the behavior. But she better get with the program because while scuffles are OK I have ZERO tolerance for aggression.

She does lay well, but if New hampshire's lay less than RIR, then it won't improve their laying (at least for the RIR, but maybe for the NHR). IMO, this cross is more about improving behavior on the RIR... but what do I know??
