What Dog Breed Do You Want Today!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

My current dog is a rescue (ALL my dogs are rescues!) who has absolutely NO clue what to do with a toy. You can literally bounce a ball off of his head or chest and he just sits down and looks at you with a confused expression. He's VERY smart. He figures out puzzles and how to open doors (and how to ferret a cat out of its' hiding place) in no time flat ... but toys? "What am I supposed to do with this tug-toy, stuffie, crinkler once I take it from your hand?" :he
Awwww that’s sad. How long have you had them? Sometimes they can take weeks or months, even years sometimes, to get fully comfortable so he may learn eventually! Unless you’ve had him a while already then idk.

I’ve taken care of five very different dogs this summer. They’ve all collectively made me never want a dog 😌
I'll send you five more.
I can't understand being afraid of dobermans (or any other breed of dog for that matter)! They're so goofy and they're very smart! And so beautiful!
Personally I feel most people should actually have a "respect" for ALL dogs, regardless of breed. Often breeds have a reputation for a reason, just because the reputation doesn't accurately show the well bred, well trained, well behaved ones doesn't mean the ones that created that reputation didn't and still don't exist.
I love the Bull Arab breed which can have a pretty bad reputation. There's people within my family even who think "pig dogs" are terrible. I even believe there was an incident between a neighbour near by and their pig dogs... I work with a LOT of pig dogs and unfortunately I've met many dogs who uphold that reputation. The absolute sweetheart Bull Arabs/Mixes I've had the pleasure of working with, cause me to love them but hold a strong respect for them. I'd rather treat every one I meet as a potentially dangerous dog and be pleasantly surprised that they're not then the other way around :)

He was a Covid puppy. Someone took him home to foster during the "Clear the Shelters" campaign and returned him when lockdown ended. I got him less than a week later. He was almost two, now five. At this point, I don't hold out much hope on his ever playing "Fetch!"

What's really weird is the breeds people fear. You're more likely to get bitten by a chihuahua than a dobie or shepherd. For years, the top breed for dog bites in the US was ... get this ... dachshunds!

I love this. Some people are plain stupid. Do NOT walk up to a dog you don’t know and hug them or put your face in their face. Just because they are a lab or a golden people think they are friendly. This makes me SO mad. If someone grabbed Chase’s (my golden retriever) face and tried to kiss him they would be badly bitten. And that would fall on me. Someone’s stupidity leads to a lawsuit and a dog being put down. People think just because Chase is a golden he is friendly. Most don’t ask to pet and it infuriates me.

Exactly, by trying to create a "better" reputation for a breed you can also put people in danger and the dog honestly, cause they're the ones who deal with the consequences of crossing that line.
Labs are the "perfect" breed, great around kids, etc. etc. So why did two labs wander onto my property and then one almost full on attacked TWO people when they went to try and stop them attacking my chickens? If it had been an "aggressive" breed they would've approached with more caution or not at all, but they got complacent because it was "just labs".
Breed doesn't matter as much as individual dogs, breed still has a say but people make too many blanket statements in BOTH directions.

And yeah, only dogs I've ever actually been "bitten" by were chihuahua, Maltese X, and one of my terriers. But those bites don't quite compare to the Dane X bite my colleague received, to the face, that landed them in hospital.

People definitely underestimate what a dog is capable of. Makes me think of a video I saw once where a lady walked up to someone’s dog and made kissy lips to the dogs face. And then was promptly bitten in those kissy lips. I fully admit I was happy to see her be taught a lesson. Oh goodness… the thought of being bitten by a Great Dane in the face is terrifying

Or anywhere
It's eye opening when you "witness" something like that (I was in a different room when it happened), and why I don't take aggressive dogs lightly at all. No one saw it coming or obviously it never would happened because safeguards would've been put in place. At the end of the day, dogs are still animals and you need to be careful cause it only take once. Your face is awfully close to your neck...
I know people who are surprised they chose to still work with dogs after that.

Anyway, I'm derailing the thread at this point 👀 I have no burning desire rn so I'm gonna say red Affenpinscher for me today 😊
