What Gender are my Muscovy Ducks??

I agree they are difficult to tell apart still. My scovy babies are around the size yours are, and things I look for are a bigger beak and legs for males. Plus size helps. To me Pato looks like a girl but I'm unsure about Mumble. I thought for sure one of my babies was a girl, but then he/she had a growth spurt and I think I have another male...sigh. I can make good guesses but we never know until they get older!

I’m not as experienced as some people here but to me Pato is clearly a girl and Mumble is a boy. Pato has more feather development and Mumble has big feet sitting fairly wide apart. Also from the side view looking at their faces and bill Pato just looks like a girl and Mumble like a boy.

@NHUH thank you for your help. Any advice on raising a boy and girl together? We don’t have a ton of yard space to keep them separated if needed, so I am just wondering if anyone has run into difficulties raising 1 boy and 1 girl?

If you don’t mind them mating and you want to keep him, I suggest getting two more girls. He might do her too much when he gets to that age and she can get injured. Also they are very social creatures, having more than two is always better in case one dies for some reason :/ Unfortunately their mating season is also fairly long depending on where you live so separating might not work well.

Another quick tipp, if we are still unsure about Pato, check how they walk. My girls always step on their own feet and walk pigeon toed. My boys walk like boys lol, just wider apart. Keep observing. Having them a week apart makes it a little difficult, but their genders will become apparent fairly soon. If they end up both boys it’s possible to keep them together as pets. It does depend on their personalities but people reported they did this successfully. My boys are always more friendly and if you spend a lot of time with them they make adorable pets. Bonus: they will keep mosquitos and flies down! :)
