What is this wierd thing sticking out her chest!?

Chickiebooboo did you suture up the opening that you cut in her chest or tape it shut so germs won't get in ?

Did you find a sliver or other foreign object in the growth that looked like it had caused the growth in the first place ?

nuttyredhead, she is pretty tame to begin with. So she didnt fuss too much, when we were cutting it she just laid on her side with her eyes closed the whole time, we didnt really even need to hold her very much. I just loosely held her feet, just to be safe

Chickielady, we sprayed this purple stuff on it and made sure it was coated. Its called blue... something I forget, I'll ask for you. It coated it and then got hard to protect the opening.

Miss Lydia, nothing came out of the wound except a whitish yellow colored puss. It was pretty thick, but it mostly drained out on its own so we didnt need to dig it out. Thank God! I was surprised when I looked and there was like pages of people waiting to here from me! Usually people kinda forget about my posts, I hope the pics will be worth the wait!

it was pretty empty, caved in against her chest. The outsides were pretty hard with dead tissue so the sides stick up but the middle is caved in. We sprayed water and peroxide in a few times to flush it out. But there was so much it was immpossible to get it completly empty. So there is probably a tiny bit still inside on the edges.

If you are not sure you got all of the infection out then I would leave the wound as open as possible so that it can drain anything else out. Treat it more like a puncture wound. I am glad to hear that she is doing better!

What about an antibiotic for a couple weeks to help her get rid of anything that might be left?

ruth, I'm happy I found it before anything hardened. The guy who helped me said if it would have been left a few mroe weeks it would have hardened. I really hope she recovers 100% and the infection doesnt spread. She is one of my favorite hens
