We also went with a balsam hill tree. Cutting our own became to big a challenge a few years back so we pushed the easy button. That said, the state foresty nursery sells fingerling trees to reforest after logging. A part of our land had been logged before we bought it. So our kids planted about 100 various Xmas trees so in 10 years or so, they can come harvest one with their kids (we hope)

Thanks - every year my wife picks a theme - this year was black & red flannel. She buys ribbons, bows and ornaments the week after Xmas to get the big sale prices. She also got matching flannel shirts for us, and black and red flannel pj's for our son, daughters and daughter in law. She goes a bit overboard! She MAY have bought a maching onesie to hint that we really really want grandkids!

That's a great idea of your DW's! You need to get a picture of everyone in their black & red at Christmas

Ours is fake and it's tradition in our house to decorate and set up the tree the Saturday after thanksgiving so it's been up a little bit now I did want to get a real one this year but it couldn't happen this time. Maybe next year.

We do an artificial tree too. Partly because it can go up early and come down late. ...without becoming a fire hazard. Also because the branches are sturdy and can hold large and heavy ornaments. Gotta love that the lights are prestrung and wrapped deep into the branches. Then, too, I don't like to treat a tree as a disposable object.

We miss the intoxicating aroma of a real tree but feel good about the fact that we can use our tree for 10 years.

No presents yet. Santa will bring them.

That is the side of a panel truck that we salvaged. It's massive.

And thanks for the compliment to the tree. Those are unbreakable ornaments that we've used since my grandson was young.

He's 9 now so I'm looking forward to hauling out the beautiful glass and handcrafted ones that I've been collecting for 50 years. But I recently had surgery to my wrist and I'm still recovering and not able to do or lift much. So digging through storage for them will have to wait another year...

The advantage of these, however, is that he was able to decorate the tree himself so that part is good!
