Drain fly larvae?

I've had those in my waterer before too. I just use a regular bowl that holds about a gallon of water that I dump every day to provide fresh water for my chickens and poof they just appear out of nowhere, several at a time.

Well, that's something exciting to look for!
Afiak I've never seen those in water dishes, but now I'm a bit grossed out

I just started seeing these appear in water bowl, which I dump daily, though I have been rasing chickens for 2 years now. I’m curious why they appear even in weather as cool as 40’s F. Have people been seeing these for many years now, or is this a newer phenomena?
