I was stuck in a tech help center waiting for the world's computer systems to come crashing down... not a single glitch.

Growing up on the powwow trail I met several people from different tribes that fractured from the Mayans, and Mayan descendants that are now called something else since the nation itself collapsed and was absorbed into neighboring tribes.
Here is what has been explained to me multiple times.
2012 does not signify the end of the world. This is a strictly western/white thing and they have no clue where it started.
2nd. The calender goes in cycles. 2012 marks the 13th cycle which is a sacred number to them. A couple told me that some of the old ones once believed their god would descend form the sky during this time, but uh... no end of the world. Afterwards the entire calender would start over.
3rd the Mayans, like all cultures, had/have many different prophecies, some really crazy (like other cultures/religions) so this would be noting different IF it had meant to mark the end of the world.
th Most tribes don't have an armagedon view that dominates the religions that follow the God of Abraham (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Mormons, etc). Some tribes have stories about the world being cleansed and renewed, but non of the end all be all end of the world thing. And I have yet to meet a erson from a tribe with a story about a massive battle of good vs evil, and people rising into the sky and all that sort that is common in certain factions of Christianity.
5th. this whole to do about 2012 has either amused, or annoyed the Mayan descendants I have spoken too. Their general view of westerners seems to be that we're bored and needing something to be worrie dabout.
