What to feed to avoid corn

Wifezilla, Taste of the Wild is what i feed my cats and dogs too! it literally saved my cats life. such good quality.

haven't tried feeding it to the chickens yet... maybe next time i forget to pick up a bag of chicken feed and have to scramble to find chickie breakfast i'll give them some TotW cat food!

oh wait, it's not organic. darn.

Yup Peas..
I have peas lined up with my organic supplier for my spring order. I can not wait to get them into my "mix".. cool.....!

Chris09,
Might I ask where you got those numbers? Most places I look only list percent protein, but not the carb value...

Those that plant or just interested may find this U of Wisconsin Alternative Crop Handbook a good read. Here is the link:

Thanks again, to all.. This thread has been most enlightening and helpful to me.

Thanks to both of you.
Chris09, I checked it not so many ingredients listed but nice info!
PaulaJoAnne,
I signed up for the free account. It is great for "human" foods such as Quinoa and oats, but not for things you would just feed chickens such as alfalfa meal.

Thanks

No there isn't that many ingredients.
Here is a link to a composition table from Beef Magazine.
They have a lot at this link but it isn't a calculator.

rosawoodsii--if your motivation is to avoid GM grains, you are best off buying organic, even though it is expensive. If you try to make your own mix, it will end up being expensive anyway--I tried looking into this, it becomes quite expensive for a small flock, a little less if you can buy in bulk. The reason organic foods are expensive is BECAUSE they avoid GM foods, have to be certified, tracked, etc..and can't use labor-saving devices such as Roundup Ready grains. You pretty much get what you pay for...

Good point. Thanks for making it.

By birds always have Organic premixed feed available. It accounts for about 1/3 of their diet. I am trying to get a more complete grasp on chicken nutrition, so I can reduce it further.
