What treat did your chickies get today?

We have neighbors who planted a garden almost as large as ours but they are very new to gardening and therefore aren't quite sure when to pick certain things. The wife picked two cantaloupes yesterday (at least a week too early) only to find they weren't ripe enough for people to enjoy but she gave one to me and my chickens got it this morning. They didn't care one little bit that it was still a bit green....they attacked the slices like they might never get fed again. I love giving them treats - they are so appreciative. They got the cantaloupe, some over-ripe cucumber, a green tomato, and oats.

Its raining so I gave them warm oatmeal, egg shells from the mornings breakfast and wet mash.

I like this idea. Maybe I'll start giving them my pots of weeds. lol I usually just rip the weeds out for the horses but the chickens might appreciate it more since they get less greens than I'd like.

My girls got some okra and squash this morning. Didn't really have any interest in it though. They would much rather have bugs and grass

Mine just went crazy over egg shell sprinkled tomatoes. I think they thought the egg bits were the seeds so they gobbled them up FAST.

Girls got left over toast, grits, egg shells, yogurt with little olive oil sprinkled over all of it. Ummm sounds so yummy. They love their yogurt.

Mine got yellow squash ends and a handful of raisins.

frogs! I have several small frogs that have invaded the hot tub. I keep kicking then out and the next morning they are back. then I found one in the laundry room. ick. the adult hens thought they were yummy. Something wiggly to play with. Seems z bit cruel, but I am not willing to share the hot tub with frogs. They don't follow the rules. All three groups are getting Greek yogurt today. Out dates on grocery day is my loss, their gain. every one also got watermelon rind today as well. the new pulleys have never had treats, so it is much fun to watch them learn.
