What's for Dinner?

Good morning everyone! I'm up before light having tea...I love yerba mate.

I am assuming wombats don't hurt chickens? Our only marsupial here is the opossum, and people say they kill chickens, but they're kind of slow and have poor eyesight. A free ranging chicken would probably evade it. It's coyotes here that are the biggest danger. I've lost 4 chickens to coyotes in 4 years. Only when they've been out, they have been safe in their run so far. I only let them out for about 3 hours every evening now, and I keep watch. It's a pleasant time for me...watching chickens forage....

Awwww it looks lovely where you live! I can imagine 3 hours chicken watching would be wonderful!

Hi yes I'm an Aussie but living in France! I left home when I was 21 and didn't return to live there until I was 32 - we spent 8 years there and returned to France about 3 years ago! Hubby is 1/2 French. No I'm sure they wouldn't - they are pretty slow and I think vegetarian (don't quote me on that though!)

Well since I have chickens this year and waiting on eggs, Ward said what will you do with all those eggs? I bought an egg recipe book which has wonderful ideas and so we are testing them out. My favorite was Flat bread pizza with poached egg in center and fontina with leeks. Since I’m not making it tonight I’ll take pic of pic in book. Comes out looking just like the book. All from scratch even crust.Yum!

I have also tried egg salad recipes, a Korean bowl, and for those who are French a Croque Madame.

looks good! can you describe how to make that? I'd like to try it. We are getting 6 eggs a day, and there are only 2 of us. I feed some back to the chickens and give some to a neighbor. I need some ideas how to use eggs.
I know I'd better appreciate this bounty because they will be slowing down or stop laying in the winter. Last winter, all the chickens molted, including the pullets, and we got no eggs for a couple months. I hope this year's pullets will keep going, there are only 2 tho and their eggs are tiny.

Well this fed me and my husband for dinner and we froze remainder for lunch another day. It takes 8 eggs for 2-14 inch pizzas. Didn’t last a week. Can use 3 eggs per pizza fine. See attachments for recipe. Book is Incredible Eggs 50 eggciting recipes. It’s great and love the recipes.

Well I haven't made anything for dinner that turned out very well these last couple days. But tonight, we are going to our county fair. The fair is held around the town square which is nice. There is a carnival right on the street on 3 sides of the square. Livestock behind the bank. Only drawback is there is no poultry exhibition at this fair. (unlike all the counties around us.) The only chicken will be barbecued, and I plan to get some. :D

okay here are pics from the fair. the food is a bit uninspiring, but it's fun to have a picnic outside and not have to cook...I always enjoy seeing the kids showing their animals. And I love carousels....
