Hi! I own a blog called "Boots and Chicken Poop" (www.bootsandchickenpoop.wix.com/mysite) with my sister! We are planning on writing a blog on peoples' favorite chicken breeds. This is where all you come in! If you'd like to help, please vote on the poll what your favorite breed of chicken is. Please choose from what we have on the poll; it is a multiple choice. After you have voted, if you would like and have time, you can tell us why the breed/breeds you choose are your favorite. Please tell us what you voted for. If none of them are on your favorites list, please tell us your favorite breed.

Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,
CaboodlesChicks!

I voted Orpington but, big surprise, my favorite breed is Turkens. Orpingtons are my second favorite though.

I love Turkens for many reasons. They are the friendliest chickens I've ever had- always jumping in my lap and on my shoulders. Even my least friendly turken doesn't mind being pet. They go CRAZY for food, unlike all my other chickens, and it is hilarious how they flock around me and try to knock the feed bucket out of my hand. The turkens are just so active all the time, and always zoom past me flapping their wings around wildly. Overall, they are very goofy, crazy, and attention hogs.

Orpingtons on the other hand, in my experience, are the calmest and most lovable chickens I've got. My opringtons are always either following my around or snuggling in my lap whenever they can. They are also extremely gentle- never pecking people, and calm around little children.

What fun. Congratulations on your chicken blog. (Cute use of your Wix templates.)

Oh my, I have had many chicken breeds over the years, and my fair share of hybrids.

But of all that I have owned, the one breed that has found a special spot in my heart is the Bantam Cochin.

Bantam Cochin are the dust mop sweethearts of the chicken world. Most are very tame and can become quite affectionate.

They handle easily, and they come in so many different colors that you could have a different color for every day of the week. The Mille Fleur is my favorite and is simply stunning.

They waddle when they run or walk due to their short, round stature, and their heavily feathered feet.

They make excellent mothers and often brood several times a year. I keep them for the purpose of hatching and raising chicks for my flock.

Because of their slow waddling ways, it is best to keep them separate from large fowl. They should be protected from predators as well, so they do not make for good free range birds.

I love my little fluff balls. It's the closest I'll come to a Tribble (for Star Trek fans).

Hello Friends,

Great idea, CC! You have a wonderful website that is very informative and enjoyable.
I voted Orpington because they are indeed my favorite breed.
Having them from the beginning, I continue to own two Buff hens. Both being my FIRST hens I have ever had / watched grow.

They are very calm and docile, always up to mischief but in a pleasant way that isn't non caring. My first rooster was a Buff and I've had in the past three Buff hens.

Beautiful birds for any flock and I'd rate them as: "The Perfect Starter Breed". Good luck with the website you and your sister will be starting, looking forward to reading it!!

Have a nice day now, CC!

Turkens seem to be very enjoyable!

@caboodleschicks

You have permission to use my photo, if it is useful, on your Blog.

I wrote it so that you could use my comments and photo if you found it helpful. Feel free to edit as needed for the blog.

That is Rosie and Mimsy in the photo. Mille Fleur color mixes (with Mottled..but more Mille Fleur than Mottled).

Sadly I lost Mimsy to a hawk last year. My Bantam Cochins are now always locked, 24x7, in a large netted pen on bark dust (to protect their feathered feet). No more free time for them.
