I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you have staggered hatches like that and keep opening the incubator to turn some eggs you're removing the much needed humidity and that is probably the reason your hatches aren't the best.
You should take the eggs out of the genesis because you're putting them at risk of failure every time you "quickly" open the lid to turn the other eggs.
There really is a reason for the 3 day lockdown.....
Next time try to put the eggs in the same day and you'll see you'll have better control over the temps and humidity and have more success hatching.
Good luck with your hatch. I hope it's better.
Thanks, Chic Chic (sniff, sniff).
Of course, I will take your words to heart. And I do see what you mean.
There are a couple of answers, of course.
1) Put my eggs in at the same time.
2) Hehehe. Get another incubator.
And actually, 2) is not really an option, because how could I justify getting another incubator when I am not hatching any to speak of in the two I have?
One is a still air LG and the other is a 1588 Genesis, which of course I am having high hopes for.
And I have to empty out the LG before I put anything else in, because it is getting icky.
I am sure a dirty incubator is not good either.
I will have to leave all the eggs in the Genesis, and I guess put in a damp wash cloth and mist over the eggs if I have to turn anything.
I am going to try to arrange hatches better in the future.
I cannot think of a better option. If I KNEW all those silkie eggs were done for, I could take them out, clean out the LG, and put the hatching eggs in, and go into lockdown with them. But I DON'T, and I can't just toss them on the chance that they might be bad. I am not at all good at candling yet.
