Who else is waiting the impossible wait?

Hi everyone,

I got my RIR's (6 hen's and 1 rooster) 3 weeks ago. Breeder said they were 6 months old. We have them in a very spacious coop - watered and fed well. No eggs yet - a guy I know told me that many times when a chicken is moved to a new coop they sometimes go into a "molt" and stop laying for some time. Anyone heard of this? Also, is this constant 90-100 degree heat effecting them as well? They are almost 7 months now - eating good - appearing mostly normal (what's normal for a chicken?- LOL). Looks like I have 5 hens and 2 roosters though but that wouldn't matter would it?..

Mine are 19 weeks today. And I have NADA, SQUAT, BUPKUS, ZIPPO. They couldn't care less about the nesting boxes.

I'm waiting and waiting.. My sister tells me I should only buy food that is labeled as egg layer food... What do ya'll think..

The food they have is just chicken feed pellets from a local company is there a difference between the two?

Mine are 20 week old too - March 15th hatched.
5 Barred Rocks. 3 of them have VERY red comb and big (like a nickle) wattle. They have been like that for last 3 weeks.
Couple of them make loud noise, specially about 7 AM when I go feed them.
They dug 5 inch deep holes in raspberry patch.
I have put up couple of fake eggs (golf ball and plastic egg) in the coop nest.
1 of the BR even takes the egg and pushes under its breast curiously - so seems like it knows something.
All the signs of egg laying but no eggs

. They free range all day and come sleep in the coop for the night.
Not sure if that's the problem. Not sure if I should build run and lock them up in.

waiting..waiting and waiting..<sigh>

We are at about 3 little brown eggs a day. We have a flock of about 25 so hopefully the rest will start laying soon. I was reading in some other threads about what to line the boxes with and did a little test. I put hay in half of the boxes and softwood shavings in the other half. They now ALL three lay in the softwood shavings. The hens were also tossing out all the hay from the nesting boxes-they leave the shavings alone! So we will be switching to the shavings! It took one hen three days before she laid her egg in the boxes-before that it was out in the grass!
