whos breaking ice out of the water dishes already

i have the 3 galolon tubs made by fortex, i use them for my ducks and a 3 quart one for my bantams. i have a heater base for a metal waterer in my main coop
i just kick the sides of the tubs for the 3 gallon ones and i use a hammer for the 3 quart one. the metal waterer turns on when the temp gets below 33 degrees and turns off when the temp gets above 35 degrees.

Today and yesterday had ice in the waterers, but mostly just a film on top. These are the first times so far, but I'm sure there's plenty more days to come! At least I don't have to lug a bucket of hot water out there yet, that's always fun

Our water was freezing solid daily so we bought heated dog dishes for our chickens, problem solved. But our rabbit waters were freezing solid in 30 mins so that was a pain. We are back in the 20s now so deicing 1 time per day now thank god.

I had one morning this past week when we got down to 20 that the hanging waterer for one of EE's was frozen solid and a 1 liter on a rabbit had to be taken in and put in a bowl of hot water to thaw. The hanging bucket with nipple waterers did not freeze...hoping it continues to stay thawed but I expect as Winter cranks up I will be hauling gallon jugs of hot water out to thaw it.

Forecast for this week appears to be the norm...Red Flag Warnings for wildfires...darn wind has blown for weeks now and our humidity levels are in the teens. Their ginning cotton and wind is bringing in the dust from that and the freshly plowed fields so allergies are raging...sounds like I'm a 5 pack-a-day smoker!

Hadda take the hose in that I use between the hydrant and the waterers to thaw out some water that had frozen in it so it couldn't be used. Other than that there isn't even a decent skim of ice on the pond yet--last year we were skating between Christmas and New Years.

Yup, even here in the valley in central CA it's been COLD. Been breaking a layer of ice on the buckets several times now.

Not this morning but have had to off and on for over a month now. Glad I have heated waterer in coop now though, for those gotta run mornings I can open coop door and not bother with run water and rest assure they have water by walking back in at least.

I was doing that every morning for the last week here in NH. About 1/4" of ice inside and in the tray. The ice didn't stop the chickens from drinking though. Heated waterer is now in place.
