Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening,

over 7 hours without a single post ? just how many people do we have left ?
Oh I get it,, now that we can't advertise anything for sale, nothing to write about anymore, eh ?

I trimmed out the door on the guinea coop.. put door stop all around.. cut the mini gate .. now just have to come up with a way to hold it in place but still be able to remove it quickly and easily without tools..

Some of us have been dealing with Hunter's Safety and a sick cat.

Thankfully tomorrow is the LAST day of Hunter's safety. I will be glad to have it over with since they have 54 'kids' in the class. After going through this I have come to the conclusion that 10 yr old's have no business taking this class UNLESS they understand the gravity of the material. It has been very distracting to try and listen to the material being presented over the whispers and giggles of a bunch of kids. Perhaps parental attendance should be required, that way the kids will pay attention instead of chatting with their buddies. After this is over with I plan on taking the CC class the instructors teach. A bargain price of $65/person or $115/couple. We just need to set a date and time.

Poor Grover is still hanging in there. He is still alert, attentive to his surroundings, and wanders around the house...... but he is not eating as far as I am aware of. We have been force feeding him tonight just to get some calories into him and give his medications a chance to work. I am going to chat with the vet tomorrow and see what she thinks. He is on an antibiotic that I think should have started to work by now..... they are thinking that he either has a liver mass, an infection in his liver, or he has Leukemia (not FeLV either). If it is not an infection then there is no point in allowing him to suffer. Poor guy is down to a little over 8 lbs (he was once 18).

No news on the job front still...... I just keep plugging away. I have a few carrots dangling over me, but nobody is biting yet.

I wish it would warm up so my tomatoes would ripen. The plants have LOTS of green tomatoes on them that are just waiting to ripen......

That is about it here. Oh yes, the baby duckling is doing well! The kids are deciding on what to name it. I keep telling them not to put the cart before the horse...... let's just see if it survives.

Hi All!

My Quill order is 35% complete! I should make the deadline with ease.

Nothing new for me, just hoping Jon and friends weather the storm well.

Night All!

We've been at the fair grounds getting birds ready for judging this am. We've had so many compliments on our birds. One even said at least one of my roos better take grand champion! Man I sure wish my son would of registered more breeds we had. I would of loved to bring them in and show these guys what heritage birds look like. I can see most are hatchery quality. I did ask to enter late some of them but they said had it been a few days earlier they would of as the show entries are way down this year. Theirs always next year.

I'm really giving some serious thought about going to the state show in Portage this fall. I would love to see how those shows are run and see all the beautiful birds and possibly pick up a few new ones if I could. When is that again?

Hello All,

Delisha, we are in Argyle, WI, is in Lafayette Co, near the Green Co side.

Cuties, we have lots of different colored silkies, black, white, partridge, red, buff, blue, splash (I am trying to run through the nightly head count in my mind...) here is a pic of some of them enjoying some water melon, few are not in the pic :)

geese still haven't migrated to the full part of the pond, friend said we should get ducks to try and show them that they can use the entire pond, I worry that I'll just have more poultry sitting under my deck and not in the pond.... unless I just got a couple full sized ducks and tossed them in? but if I can't lock them up at night will they only last one day??? we have coyotes near us...

otherwise not much new on the homefront. hoping to get some sweet corn froze this weekend along with some zuccini (will be first time trying that....) and perhaps get my 2 year old into a toddler bed, Lord help me.... lol

Morning All... Not much new here either. We picked prolly a doz tomatoes so far....a lot are turning and will be ready later this week. My Buttercup squash will also be a loss this year.....shoulda known the pests were gonna gobble them up.....squash vine borer and cucumber beetles. That garden won't be used next year...I need to clean up the problem in the soil there.

Good luck with the new order H&R...keep us posted as to the quality of the birds as they grow. My light brahma hens are pure quality....I should show them, but just way busy this year. If I don't get more wood cut, it's gonna be awful cold in this house this Winter.

Cut some grass yesterday...more to cut....what a terrible waste of time, just to make it look better for a while.

Have fun....bigz

Morning

everyone,

thanks about my Aunt, never a easy item to deal with, my dad is holding up pretty well considering.

our chicks have been shipped so we are keeping tabs on them via the tracking number.

trying to get caught up on the paper work as things have been super busy with getting rentals ready.

our garden is doing pretty good- zucchini and other summer squash, some peas, beets, onions

have a good one!

Well all of our birds took first place. BLRW roo took Grand Champion, hen took Reserve Champion and Speckled Sussex hen got Reserve Champion. Waiting for Tyler to do his Showmanship with our little Sussex mix hen, then we can finally get back home.
