Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I hope your hatching goes better than mine Jim. I lost the one that was zipping it never got out and the one that had the yolk sack stuck to it for so long this morning. So the score is 7 out of 9 hatched but 3 died. I candled all the eggs when I took them out and there were only 2 left that were possble hatchers. Have been trying figure out why but there's so many variables. The hens that laid them were just over 10 months old, the 2 power outages. Checked my water softener and it was 4 hours off I only knew about one outage, an hour and a half. On the up side the chick with the crooked foot is straightening out! dk1 was going to ask how the quitting was going but didn't want to bring it up. Keep it up your gonna make it! Hope the CU comes through for you! BCC glad they made a mistake! TO everytime I've tried to nap the phone rings, just gonna have to tough it out. H&R there'll plenty of Pizza your always welcome! The snow is just about gone

My broody hen is finally running around with 3 chicks. After sitting in her nest box for 3 days after the first chick hatched I pulled her out of there so the little ones could eat. I picked her up and all the babies were tucked up in her wings. She had one egg left. I threw it in the incubator and it's working on getting out. I don't like how wild they are when they're hen raised and I don't want to keep any mixed chicks, but she's been on that nest for over 2 months. I kept taking her eggs away because it was so cold. She deserves to have a few little ones to take care of.

Done early today, I'm bugging out while I can! Woot!

Think I'm going to skip the dog show in Fond du Lac, it's just a little 1-pointer anyway. Stay home this weekend, put the boys' baskets together and build that brooder I was going to build last weekend until I got sidetracked. REALLY need it now. Got in 27 chicks this am (they sent 3 extras, only lost 1) and have gosh-I-don't-know-how-many in the hatcher due any day. My two chick-tvs are full with the new chicks and the 3 week old chickies, so yeah, gotta get that broody/brooder double decker box done this weekend.

Ahhhhhh crap, they caught me, hopefully finish this phone call and then skedaddle-me!

nice day so far-didn't get much done at the unit I was working on- just one of those days!

DH got dragged into reading the thread last night because it was talking mechanical stuff- like splitting a tractor! Says he could see how to do that in his mind! In our other life before Rental properties he worked as a mechanic on construction equipment and did alot of taking apart of the machines- never had any left over parts either!

I have a Call duckling hatching!

When I pulled the dead Call eggs after the temperature fiasco, I threw two "questionable" eggs into the hatcher just in case - because I've had eggs that got cold before that start to look a little sickly and dead, but once they're warmed back up to the proper temperature, they perk back up. I don't have anything else hatching for another 2 weeks right now, so I checked on those two eggs today - one is definitely dead. I opened it up, and it's been dead since before I put it in the hatcher.

But the other egg is internally pipped and the duckling's wiggling around like crazy in there!

I already have a chicken named "Miracle" (the little Mottled Cochin that was the only chick to survive my brooder cocci outbreak last fall - who DID turn out to be a little pullet, by the way), so I think if this little Call duckling makes it out of the egg okay I'll call it "Marvel" or "Wonder" or something along those lines.

I completely understand the stresses of hatching, Dr. H! After this little duckling hatches, I'm ready for a 2 week break before I have anything else hatch! It's exhausting worrying about the little buggers!

Anyways - got the night off work tonight, so I got the dog's toenails trimmed, and now I'm off to help finish the shower. Apparently, we lost the caulk gun, so we're searching the house and garage right now.

I think we must have 5...DH buys a new one every time he needs to do some caulking! (I dont tell him where MINE is!) H&R--maybe you oughta send your DH up to Jim's...I know I will have mine pick up yours and they can go together! They can have a big party splitting tractors...DrH--you be ready on the interstate and they will grab you as they go by...get ready Jim--you are being descended upon--no excuses now!
I cant believe you got kicked off for telling a joke Jim...I hope they dont kick me off here for telling this one:

A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road.
He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front
of the car.

The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see
what has become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit is the Easter Bunny, and he is DEAD.

The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry. A beautiful blonde woman driving down the road sees a man crying on the side of the road and pulls over.

She steps out of the car and asks the man what's wrong.

"I feel terrible," ! he explains, "I accidentally hit the Easter Bunny with my car and KILLED HIM."

The blonde says,"Don't worry."

She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead Easter Bunny, bends down, and sprays the contents on him.

The Easter Bunny jumps up, waves a paw at the them and hops off down the road.

Ten feet away he stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again and again, until he hops out of sight.

The man is astonished. He runs over to the woman and demands, "What is in that can? What did you spray on the Easter Bunny ?"

The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label.

It says..

(Are you ready for this?)

(Are you sure?)

(You know you're gonna be sorry)

(Last chance)

(OK, here it is)

It says,

"Hair Spray
Restores life to dead hair,
and adds a permanent wave."

Happy Easter!!!

SO nobody report me OK? LOL! I decided not to go to my MGV meeting tonight--just too tired. I dont know why I am so tired! I think it is the housework! I went outside today and took some pics of some flowers in the yard. Here they are:
Blood Root in my little woods:

The pachysandra is blooming too!

THe last one is the only tulip in the yellow tulip garden that is ORANGE. and I have no idea where it came from...even the leaves are different than the ones I planted 8 years ago...it just appeared about 3 years ago!

I also took pictures of lots of hens to see if I could get a "stink eye" pic....I am entering the one the fam picked; but you will have to go to the Easter hatch page to see it!
OK--I think I took up enough space now. Getting dark-need to close up and feed things...sweet dreams all! Terri O

Photos of the chicks that arrived today, grouped to the best of my ability with the names of what I think they are, LOL. Having never seen any of these breeds before, did my best.

Iowa Blues:
(A couple pictured. They look a little rough, were playing in their food and being the smallest in the tank got walked upon.)

La Fleche (White and Black):
(OK, looking at the center one in the whites, that comb looks different though the feathers are coming in white...I've probably got them all categorized wrong, but hey, it's my best guesses. Will see when they grow up! The only whites I had in the order were La Fleche and White Spanish White Faceds and that doesn't look like a single comb to me.)
