If your friend ever got sick from heat they wouldn't be so flippant about it! Stay cool!

Kes..... I think where you wound up was a MUCH better choice! Wish I could have been there too! Other than the heat, would have been my kind of day!

Huston, we have a rooster! One of the young roos made his first "big boy" crow this morning! A little weak, but a full crow. Don't think he realizes what that means for him and his buddies

Well, I made a pen more in the shade and closer to the house for Jasmine and the kids. Used 2' poultry wire and threw a piece of 4' poultry wire over the top. Looked out the window at about 2:00 and DIDN'T SEE THEM! Ran out and one end of the pen was caved in and lots of Jasmine feathers! I bet I went pale!

Then I heard Jasmine's chick calling cluck coming from the shed. There she was with ALL of the chicks!
ya.gif
Don't know what happen, maybe one of the other chickens got in and she defended the chicks.
hu.gif
She seemed to be doing ok with them and liked hanging in the shed, so I left the brooder door open and left her. I did see a while later her chasing off (I think) one of the roos. Just checked on them again... all the kids are there and all is well.

TerriO- it was a salmon favorelle... guess it wasn't you. Someone is getting carols house chicken that is roosting with the parakeets... it is the sister to the two that I got from her.

Yes, it was Cindy and the seeing eye dog for duke.

The calf, he's gone. If anyone has room or is interested we always sell out bull calves. We raise Jerseys and Holsteins. Just putting that out there. If you would be interested in buying one for whatever reason.. pet, meat, etc. I can put you on a list

What..... no one wants the cats???
idunno.gif

Sure is cooling off out there about now, thank goodness! Cows played in the sprinkler after milking again. They aren't dumb, thats for sure!

Wohooo! I don't know when it happened, but I am no longer out of the brooder. I am now "chillin' wit my peeps!"

Terri, who is Jerry and why is he needing my number? Trios of Cochins? Confusion setting in... I also pm'd you about me and Julie visiting sometime.

No no no I am DONE with indoor cats. The two we have now are close to useless: afraid of going outside, won't catch mice, eat like gluttons, poop on the floor regularly, and how can I forget the puke on my rocking chair last week.

Tired of the house smelling like a catbox.

I do hope you find homes for your fosters, Dornes. That is something I'd like to do with dogs in the future. CC, is it the gray or the calico you fancy? (Ash is the gray.) Perhaps Julie has another barn kitten like that.

Cind, don't those broodies just wrack your nerves? Did the comfrey survive the Bash? Mine is going into its second growth spurt.

DK, I could kiss ya for giving those little ingrates what for!!

Evening all, just returned home from being at the Dane Co Fair all day.

Kid's had their poultry judging today- turkeys did okay but if they would have had another week or two to fill out that would have helped. That's the way it goes but on the other had they did awsome with the chickens- especially DD.....she took the 2011 Standard Champion with her Welsummer pullet and it also received Reserve Champion- over all Best of Show. The birds she took in placed with 7 Blues and 1 Pink as the Welsummer cockeral had a few stubs(we removed what we could see but missed a couple). DS did good for his 1st year showing birds but was a bit upset as he ended up with 3 Blues, 3 Reds, 1 White and 1Pink with his chickens- some of the feathers were in rougher shape but he did fantastic in showmanship earning Reserve Champion and beat his sister by 4 points

They did great with their other projects too!

Off to try and get things together for tomorrow- have to get a unit ready for Sunday!

Hey all,

Amost home, about 60 miles to go. At Mc D's in Merrill. I am beat !!!

Jimbo, my phone went dead so couldn't call ya about picking up guineas on the way home. Talked with Annie The am about it, and you !!
gig.gif

Will talk to the woman that wants them and get back to you. We have to go back to Merrill tomorrow or Fri to get hay !!

Evening all!

:welcome to kesali! Sounds like you had fun fishing! I really need to but that on my bucket list for this summer...

TO-I think I said I'd volunteer to help with a Southerner's Party! What do you want me to do? McCarthy Park looks good, it's right off the interstate but Token Creek looks just as good. I like Token Creek's local a little better though. It seems a bit more straight forward. Do you think we'd need to make reservations for a space? That might make the decision easier.

Dornes-now I feel bad for not wanting a cat! If I had the room I'd take a Jersey cow though! They have the sweetest eyes I've ever seen on a cow!

Cind-Jasmine is such a good mama! I'm glad she did not "escape'! I enjoy you Jasmine updates!

Bigz-send your "freezing" weather down my way will ya!!

H&R-WHooo Hooooo!!! Congrats to the kids on a great show!!!
ya.gif
Those are terrific wins for them!

I must remember to high five them when I see them on Friday!!! Please tell them I said "Congratulations and Great job you guys!"
thumbsup.gif

Well, I put my three 10 week old pullets up on craigslist and with in about 30 minutes I got two responses and a very nice lady in Milton took them! I'm so happy that they will have a new home with other chicks their age! Whoo Hoo!!!

So now Buzzy is on her own. She does not seem to broken up about loosing her friends. I'm happy for the pullets but I'm even happier for Buzz. She is getting to the age that she needs Game Bird Grower feed and with the pullets could not have that because the protein is too high for chickens. I would have had to separate Buzzy soon anyway.
I want to get her all nice looking since I'm seriously considering showing her in Portage and Beaver Dam if they have a Game Bird class.

Well, I'm off to finish re reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!

Well a sad evening here at where I keep my chickens...
I went to feed horses tonight and a neighbor was out visiting with my barn owner, dogs were doing something...
I go to say hi when my dog brings me a rare Jaerhon I was given by a young lady who came on here once or twice and then decided they weren't the breed for her...
Its an even rarer black and white (non standard) pullet and then I find my young roo, so now I have NO rooster, 3 hens and a pullet...
hit.gif

I don't know if my barn owner's dog got them, and that they had gotten out of their stall, or if my dog got them.
Does anyone remember who got the Jaerhons here??
PM if you do.
Thanks
Carol

Not to burst your bubble or anything Amy, but if mom did not teach those baby kitties how to hunt, they will not hunt. They will chase and play with little critters, but will have no idea how to deliver the killing bite at the neck. I have 4 useless cats inside my house who do all the things your indoor cats do...... I wish I could chuck them out the door, but I don't want them to get hit by cars. I do love the names you have given them, they sure are cuties!

We have been raging an ongoing battle with those nasty little buggars called fleas (my darling DD brought them home with her from a sleepover at a friends house)....... Frontline is not touching them at all and the dogs have been miserable. Instead of bombing the house and constantly dipping my animals, I bought 50# of FG DE online...... WAY TOO MUCH for what I need but if it does the trick I do not care! Right now my house looks like we have engaged in a giant flour war and all the critters are gray...... but they are NOT ITCHING! Die you suckers DIE!!!!! This is so frustrating...... I hope we can be rid of the nasty little buggars once and for all after this. I figure the money is well spent if they are all decimated.

No damage from the storms here, just a lot of rain. Our rain gauge said 2 1/2 inches.

Work was a sweat box; AC was working half-ashed so the lab never was below 80 and of course humid too.... looking forward to the weekend and the opportunity to go swimming again!

Congrats H&R!!!!

Ok, getting sleepy, not enough sleep last night due to the weather..... everyone stay cool and enjoy the day tomorrow.

What in the world? Fleas should not be transported by people! What is going on BL4? I thought they only went everyplace on animals? That makes me worried...
I had a bunch to reply about but alas..have forgotten again--oh well! Sleep tight! Terri O
