I have a roo with an absess on his neck.

We have about 6 inches total snow.

Yea another month or 2 I will be whining.!

This afternoon was nice out,, here. The sun was shining and must have been in the 30s. Felt good. But when I got inside boy was I tired and achey. Took 2 IBU, forgot,, took 2 more, then remembered and then took a 2 hour nap.


About that Wellness Cat//Dog foood. It is the best IMO. Tiger eats it. I switched her t0 something a few dollars cheaper, but when she got sick for a week and a half I had to switch her back to Wellness. Well worth the money.

I was worried about cutting a (tendon?) at the bottom of the foot. Had a real hard time getting it out too. I just ended up soaking it a lot in epsom water. . That really helped. Then there is the option of giving them internal meds also while you are treating/operating on them.

Jim... I've been trying to save all the recipes people have put here.... did I miss the bread rolls? Can't seem to find it :idunn Found one, but don't think that was it.

Jim... I think we can put up with anything you say... might not always agree, but if we all thought the same we wouldn't need forums! My thought is as long as you don't tell someone to F*** off of call them names.... buck up and deal with it! We're suppose to be adults! Some people just can't take criticism or an opinion that doesn't agree with their own. I don't like dealing with those types either!

tiki.... one of my guineas has an abscess I've been fighting for over a week... I was draining it but poking too small a hole and it would close up and fill up again. I finally put a good 1/2" slice in her and went in with a swab and flushed it with a syringe. I used 50% peroxide & 50% water. It's now doing better!

Still had to reopen and flush it... but it's not filling near as bad. I also had her on antibiotics. My point is... don't be too passive with your roo's abscess. Get in it with a Good, big cut, clean it well and try to keep it open and draining! I wasted too much time with little holes. Antibiotics is a good idea too. Good luck!

Yea, Duke is hanging in there but still has ALLOT of anxiety barking, still gets lost in the fenced in back yard and had a day of bowel issues last week. I don't know... just hoping he goes in his sleep... soon.

I don't think it's right to let him go on like this, but then...

The guinea that spent the night on the neighbor's roof managed to not get spotted by the owl! Home safe and sound!
The pea soup was not my best, made it with pork stock and didn't get enough "grease" out, but it was OK. Tomorrow it's sauerkraut and kielbasa with potatoes. May put it in the slow cooker, got to go with my son to get storm doors for my rental. Should get more feed too.

Well, guess that's it for tonight....night all!

good early AM, well, I did it to myself again.. went to bed before midnighht.. woke up at 3.. can't get back to sleep and here I am..

full moon , clear sky, colder than a witches tit on the dark side of the moon..

so far the water in the guinea pen has not frozen,, when it does, I will put that heater in there.. that will prolly be tomorrow..

I am half toying with the idea of turning the quail loose in one of the coops for the winter.. I had a button quail spend all winter on the floor of the chicken coop once.. made it all winter and then died in the summer..

there are about a dozen chickens who won't go into the coops at night,, they stay in the lean-to where they are safe , but it is open to the outside temperatures.. soon I will have to lock them in one of the coops for a couple of days until they learn how to go in by themselves.. most of them are the 9 Thai fowl.. that is one hardy breed..

how man eggs should a goose lay in her lifetime ? and how many years should she lay ?

Bigz have to agree that wind was nas-T! Did my outside stuff and it took most of the day to get the chill out of me. Think most of you will recognize this

My cousin sent it to me from Phoenix it was at the farm along with another one that G'ma used that one's at mom and dads. Will pass it on when I'm done with it. TO spent most of the day in the chair with the knee wrapped, it just about killed me.

Kept thinking of things I wanted to do.

Feels a lot better and will keep it wrapped today. But I'm cleaning the coop TODAY!

L just got a text her DD just lost her plug, G'son on the way!

I am hoping for your sake it is not, but this sounds like Mareks. Of course it is so very difficult to diagnose a chicken on anything. Can you move her leg and see if it is broken? Then you would know if the leg was broken and set it and it would not be Mareks. I would give her probiotics(buttermilk) and some garlic, cinnamon and ginger in her food.



I will give my roo some penV shots too then cindlady. and clean his wound again. Thanks for the advice. Good going on the Guinea.

I hope my dog does the same, but not for a few more years, she so hates the vet.

Thanks for the response..Im getting very nervous now about mereks!!! I have 12 chickens that are 4-6 months old!!! Curious: What is the garlic, cinnamon, and ginger for?

Can you vacinate older chickens for Mareks? will it help at all? or only as day 1/2?

Also, has anyone had any luck with using hypercium/St Johns Wort or collarium (Spelling?) silver for treating Mareks? Found some posts from old timers that recommended this?

I have read of hypericium for cure,,,but dont know if it worked or it was just a coincidence that the chicken got better on its own. I just came on here to change my post to say that you should really go to the emergencies section where the experts are, although I have spent my share of time in that place. It could really be so many things. The spice formula is to boost the immune system. It is one teasp garlic to 1/2 teasp ginger and 1/2 teasp cinnamon and a bunch of probiotics. add hmmm maybe a tblsp to mix in food. each time.



I have a rooster that all of a sudden came up with a limp. He seems to walk well but his hock seems to be not working, as in weak/slipping. I fear he has a slipped? tendon? I dont know if anyone has been able to put these back in? on here? It must be real painful and am wonderring if I should cull him or let him walk like that. 'scratch head' Any ideas? He has no other symptoms.
