Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Angie I wish I could help you, but I have no idea what is wrong with your chicken!

Hey Joe?

Big Fam, of COURSE you can feed your ducks minnows.

Trying to switch my days around so I can work all night tonight. Woke up yesterday at 4:30 AM and stayed awake until almost 4 this morning. I think I am getting a little too old for this. The best part of the evening was I got to have a girls night out with FM! We had a blast!!!! Unfortunately I am a lightweight, it does not take much for me to get silly.....

Since I just woke up I better scrounge up some breakfast.....

Later!

That sounds like a great Idea, except, you are operating on the premise that this woman still has at least one functioning brain cell left that hasn't been totally pickled or stoned into non-function.  People like that function like predatory animals and will strike out (aka attack) anything, or one, they perceive as a threat to themselves or anything that would come between them and their "supply".  Worse, it sounds like she is has a "mate" that is possibly just as aggressive.  People like this cannot be dealt with on  a logical level (that requires functioning brain cells) so their reactions can be totally unpredictable (good clue when the neighbors do whatever is necessary to avoid contact).   Past personal experience has taught me that head on confrontation seldom works with these folks unless you happen to be wearing a badge.

There has to be a group with enough clout to be able to "persuade" them it would be in their best interest to turn loose of the poor animal out there somewhere.

My grandmother is schizophrenic and my father was a meth addict. Not to mention his whole side of the family are drug addicts and theives. I have been surrounded by these type of people my whole life. I would not be the slightest bit intimidated by them.

BBP I am also not intimidated by these kind of ppl, was married to one for 17 years , I know every dirty trick in the book, I'm also a big gal who can take care of myself in any situation. This kind of thing just makes me sick, and recently I had a horse removed from a neighbor a few miles up the road, skin and bone no food no water, halter on in a small fenced in area full of junk/ garbage and debris, grrrrrrrr this makes me wish I had endless money and land to house all the abused animals I hear about. I so wish I could start a rescue, but just not enough land here to go around.
I have 3 acres and 3 horses, already pushing it.............. 2 of my horses are rescues and I lost my old man rescue in 09 to colic, after having him just 5 years, he was 24 and was at least well taken care of when I had him, almost too much the vet said he had added too much weight and needed more exercise, but due to bad knee's that was not possible after 20 minutes he was gimping......... and I'd have to rub him down, with sore no more, and ice his knee's and baby him for days after that. this is my old boy Shadow
,
I miss my old man, he was quite a character. and when I got him he resembled that poor boy FT just posted pictures of. except his knee was the size of a grapefruit.
My grandson is still here but this afternoon me and hubby are going out with the bike, and I will try to find where he is............. maybe confront the idiot wench, or maybe concoct a whole new plan, will see what she has to say first. if we can find him. so anyway later all will update if I find out anything.

Well, our pullets (only 3 girls out of 10 straight-run, the rest are in the freezer) now have names (Stella, Edith, and Gertie) and are close to laying.

I bought layer feed and oyster shell today for them. My oldest, Stella the RIR, has changed her facial appearance and is now all red and the comb/waddle are red as well. The other two are a week younger and are red in the face but not yet in the comb.

While I was at the feed store, I also bought more strawberries. The ones that I have were planted in mostly sun and are not producing well. So the new ones I planted in a shadier spot. Tonight, I have tomatillos to plant.

DH is making sun tea and bottling beer. When he is done we plan to put up a clothes line to block our snoopy neighbor from seeing the chickens.

My brother and his wife were here for a few days while they were working the BAHA event in Burlington. It was nice to see them even though they were busy at the event and I was at DD's soccer fest.

I am loving this weather, so I think that I'll go back outside!

Later y'all

Hi!

Just wanted to introduce myself after lurking for awhile here.

My name is Casie and I live outside of Marathon, (west of Wausau). DH and I have had chickens for going on three years now. We are currently finishing up a new second coop, you know how that chicken math works! lol Right now we have a fun mixed flock of 3 EE's we hatched from our own birds last spring, 2 BO's, 2 Penedeseca, 1 BR, 1 NH, 1 Blue Andalusian, 1 RLW, and a red Silkie roo. He's so cute taking care of all his large ladies in the coop!

I've been on a waiting list to get some SFH chicks since March, that's who will be moving into the new coop. I just couldn't resist how beautiful they are. I may add in a few Chanteclers too.

This year we are trying out raising a couple of turkeys too. We have 3 BBB that are almost 4 weeks old. One has a splayed leg though. We did use the splint/taping treatments that I looked up here on BYC but it hasn't helped. I'm thinking we need to do the hard thing and cull that one. We usually do a batch or two of 25 broilers each year. Love how they taste but hate raising them. Might try some freedom rangers next time and get the out on pasture.

I'm so sorry to hear/see about the neglected horse. There is a horse rescue in Pittsville - Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation. They have a link on how to handle these situations that might help.
http://www.equineadoption.com/neglect.htm I hope he gets some help and out of that situation.

Warm Afternoon All...Welcome to the Cheeseheads Casie...if you have been lurking and still posted then we haven't been to scary I guess. Good folks here with a ton of help and knowledge.

Could be egg bound Angie....sounds like it might be to late to help. It's hard to figure what's wrong when you haven't seen it before and egg bound is possible. Do you have a roo with the hens? I've had roos injure hens by standing on them to long. Good Luck!

Dang....setting up the outside cooker didn't bring any rain....so today I went to the pond and bottled up 50 gallons of pond water....that should do it!

Suzie took a pic of a doe drinking out of the bird bath this morning....those are the wild animals that should be in ones backyard. At least they don't eat people.

Hi Casie D! Welcome Welcome!

FT the horse story is so awful. Poor poor animal. Please tell us you've contacted some of the suggested organizations! Is there anything I can do to help? I've never had horses so I'd be useless there. Can I bake you cookies to keep your stamina up? I'm just going to start crying

if I stay with this any longer. So I'm sending myself outside for a run to get my center back. lots of cold water and sunscreen included. This is why I never fulfilled my childhood dream of becoming a vet! If I'm not careful, stuff like this just paralyzes me.

See ya later you fine cheesehead chicken people

Welcome Cassie........
Well we aren't getting our long ride up North today, my DIL just now picked up the grandson, appaently she had a very long night at work and slept it off................ hoping for rain tomorrow, if none maybe we will get up there then or maybe Tuesday ...........I did contact several places today though about the horse, hope to hear something in the AM, and I will be checking that link that Cassie posted...............TY

Well anyway will be back later on............ take care all and don't over do it in this aweful heat....anyone......... especially you Jim............. this heat will sneak up on you when ya get older........ just ask me for it is getting to me and I'm only 46................ but I been running fresh water out to my critters with ice every 2 hours all day and chasing the grandson all over the yard...........arggggggg Do we really need to get older, I think we should all have a talk with God of choice and voice our opinion that once we hit 30 we stay there................ hehehe Kim
