We just shipped pullets for the first time. We sold 4 started Ayam Cemani pullets to @Tyrovive. Shipped overnight from Kansas City, MO to Yulee, FL. I gave them all a spa day yesterday and added electrolytes to their water. In the box are fresh apples and zucchini. Below are some photos. I’m excited and worried! :barnie

When I got chicks over a day old, the shipper put mandarin orange in the box for moisture. There is also a gel product to hydrate birds.
I have a couple questions.
I'm curious about the weight of the box and what the cost of shipping was.
I priced shipping of two cockerels to Florida from MO and it was $71 per bird for a 5 lb. package with a live bird inside just for postage.
Also, I'm interested if they questioned the packaging.
I was under the impression they had to be shipped in USPS approved shippers which would come from Horizon or FeatherEx. They are pricey.
They have pretty big air holes (about 1" diameter) all around the box with filters inside each. I'm not sure if those pin holes would provide enough air transfer.

Yeah. That is exactly what their website tells you to do. I went to 4 different post offices and no one had a clue. They didn’t have any issues with the packaging. I bought two heavy duty boxes, filled the space with butcher paper. A ton of holes in the inner box. Just enough on the outer. I made sure the inn would not slide around. Double taped all the edges. The apples and zucchini are fresh and moist enough for overnight. We shipped 4 pullets. They priced solely by weight. $150 including the packaging.

Thanks for the response. I find that the people at the counter don't know all the regs off the top of their head but they are available online.
Is your flock NPIP?

I quoted a lady $70 per bird in Florida. She was about to hit up my paypal account for that price. When I told her that didn't include postage and shipper boxes, she canceled.

To be completely honest, I just had to google NPIP. Though it sounds great. I do have my birds checked all the time at a local bird only vet. They are my babies so if I even see a sniffle, straight to her. But this would be a great way to prove their health. Yeah someone on here was going to sell my two silkies but came back with $50 each plus all the shipping. I thought they we adorable but around here silkies sell for like $5-$15 each.

I get that.
Unlike silkies, this breed is unavailable anywhere.
NPIP doesn't prove health in any way shape or form. NPIP only insures that the flock doesn't have Pullorum or Typhoid. NPIP is required to ship birds or eggs across state lines. It is also required to sell birds within many states, MO being one.
I'm not a wimp when it comes to risk but not one to risk violating the USDA rules. Fines can be daunting and I can't afford them.

I really hope your birds make it. Keep us informed.
