Your 2024 Garden

I picked enough summer squash yesterday afternoon for 3 meals. They will be stir fried in the skillet with bacon and onions. We grew the onions too. Most everything we will eat today came from the farm here.

Today I need to pick more green beans and can them. Yesterday I saw the first red tomato so I might have a nice BLT for lunch

It started raining as I started out to plant. I needed the rain the most.

We got a nice rain around 5 pm. It was heavy, but I don't think so heavy that it would damage anything, and no real wind. I was glad to see it.

This year's garlic harvest. The group at the top of the picture are the cloves I'll plant for next year.

We got just enough rain I couldn't plant for the seed would have gotten wet that I had extra for the next planting. Maybe .01 of an inch. Maybe the summer peas can get planted tomorrow.

I'm so jealous. My garlic didn't do well at all. And I planted extra hoping for a big harvest.

I did make some nice garlic scape pesto.

I put a brick under the round cantaloupe, but made a sling for the other:

I think it's the Baker Creek variety "Crane"

I went to the CoOp today for some feed and looked in a bin that their Whippersnapper pea seed were supposed to be in. It was empty as they said until next year except for about 20 seed in one corner. They donated them to my research project. I'll put them at the end of one row of the next planting in the next day or two. If we like them then we will plant a row of them next spring. From what I'm told they can make smaller peas in shorter pods or the same number of peas a little larger in longer pods. I'm wondering if they are related to the Asparagus Bean. I'll have to dig into this.

The Asparagus Bean is the same as the Yard Long Bean and is a member of the Cow Pea family. The Whippersnapper Pea is also a cow pea but not the same as the Yard Long Bean. Cow Peas are actually a bean and not nearly the same as those round green things known to start lunch room food fights.
