Your Plans For 2020! (Chat/Discussion)

What a good idea for a thread. My plan is to not hatch anything next year and get chicks that are already sexed. I hatched this year and last year but then lots of personal things came up and it grew into this big mess. Next year will be a break year and I'm really looking forward to it. We'll also focus on getting a dog and making a better dog-proof fence.

They can get there, this is fairly typical cockerel rambunctiousness. Mad Hatter is also learning, the mounting is part of it. He won't be very gentle at first and rather awkward but will refine his suave style with age. Missing feathers is part too as long as no blood or injuries occur. You'll get it, you got some plans and flexibility so you have a good foundation to build on.
Thanks for the encouragement! It feels like one grand experiment after another around here. :lau

I'm planning on expanding both of my runs. And hopefully hatching some Silkie x chicks. This will be the first time my Silkie rooster is with hens that sit, so the prospects are exciting. My hens are one of each: Millie Flure, Japanese Black, Millie Flure x Red Cochin, and Japanese Black x Red Cochin. They are all Bantams and the crosses are chicks that I raised from my hens and my other rooster. While he was a great dad, this past fall, I started suspecting he has heart problems as he matches all the symptoms. And I lost most of this fall's chicks to symptoms of heart falure. So, I'm hoping to have better luck with my Silkie. Btw, the two cross hens are normal.

This hatch-a-holic is now looking around trying to find a new decent incubator that will be replacing my older styrofoam one. It seem's that it's not doing as well on hatch rates anymore.
I use a Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 and run it at 100.5 degrees and it has been awesome...

Thank's, I'll check it out. My DH is trying to see if he can get this one that I have working right again. It's not holding temperature like it used to.

Awesome! Please be sure to look into adopting before you purchase a dog/puppy/new best friend. There's always someone out there looking for a home, even purebreds!
