Well-documented build with a really glorious roof. Ridge vent is excellent -- I'd have vented the gable peaks too, especially in the Steamy Southeast.

Wonderful roof overhangs and soffit venting. Good build photos. Needs some plans and dimensions to make it easier for people to duplicate this nice coop.

Solidly built. Good information about the leveling.

Needs dimensions, interior photos, and more ventilation.

Good start, but unfortunately the article is incomplete.
Aesthetically beautiful, well-built coop, but woefully short on ventilation. The non-operable skylight, while desirable in the winter, is sure to add a lot of heat to the coop in the summer.

The run and the porch/skyway are excellent.

Thoughtfully designed for the climate and the location. The wire wall with it's cleanout door is the absolute star of the build!

Well-written and I really liked the fact that it got a 1-year update.

This coop is splendidly well-ventilated and has many good features but got downgraded a star for lacking plans and for being wasteful in having so many dimensions that require odd cuts of the bought wood framing instead of working with the standard multiples of 4-feet that lumber comes in. :(

The gasket keeping the leaks out of the nestbox hinge is splendid and the feeder would be a VERY clever design in a larger coop where it could be better-protected from weather intrusion.

The fly problem was very surprising in a coop this well-ventilated. I suspect that the issue was an inadequate volume of litter for the number of chickens. :) Kudos for finding a solution that works and explaining it so that others with similar problems can try it.

I used to see this coop every day on my commute. It lasted until they closed this school down to build a new building and, to a commuter's eye at least, it stood up well to use and weather.

Excellent build photos and explanation of the process of working with pallet wood. I think that a competent handyman could easily duplicate it.

The only thing lacking was photos of the interior layout and actual plans, but I have to give it 5 stars for ventilation, suitability for the intended climate and location, and for my personal knowledge that it stood up well to a climate that is fairly brutal on wood.

What a beautiful and unusual setup!

It would be more useful with more photos, build details, sketch plans, etc. so that others could duplicate it.

Nice evaluation of a bought coop with it's pros and cons. I like the ability to divide it.

You noted that it needs improved ventilation -- that monitor cries out for screened vents to make it work as a monitor was designed to.

A simple, useful pen, that should be easily made but no protection from sun or rain.

Enough beautiful photos that I think an experienced handyman could duplicate it but would be more useful with some explanation of construction details, design decisions, and interior layout.

Does that clearstory window open? If it does the ventilation must be fabulous. If it doesn't then that's a shame. :hmm

Looks really promising, but needs more details -- measurements, build photos, layout, how the solar system is setup, etc.

Really excellent concept, thoughtful design for the climate, and good photos. Needs more construction details and it would be very helpful to have explained the solar system.

There are many good features about this build -- the plans, the parts list (I'd use more raccoon-proof locks), the cutting diagram, and the step-by-step instructions intended for people with limited DIY skills. I think that it could readily be duplicated by most beginning DIYers.

I can't quibble with the size since it's intended for only a pair of bantams and I think that the ventilation is probably adequate for use in a moderate climate if it's located in the shade. The use of the plumbing vent caps was very clever.

But I have 2 issues with the design:

First, I think that it would be difficult to gather eggs since it's necessary to bend down and reach inside to the back of the coop.

Second, the roof is both flat and made only of painted plywood. Thus it's likely to have rainwater pooling on top -- which would degrade the plywood and, in time, lead to leaks.
