The pictures in this article are great, especially the ones showing the progressive healing. A few pointers on prevention or cause would be very helpful to people who are just beginning winter-chicken-keeping.

It's there..."Despite copious ventilation, a closed water system, dry bedding technique...I still get some frostbite every year.
Have concluded it's unavoidable in my climate"

This is a really nice set-up - great use of an existing structure, temporary or not! What a great idea to build in pre-fab panels so you can move it next year. Now THAT'S thinking ahead!

I have since added a roosting box up off of the floor, and a ramp to get in. I need to take pictures though and post them.
I can't wait to see how and what develops! Eggburt ... or Eggburta! Please keep us posted ... maybe start a thread?

Your birds are beautiful! Yin, in particular, is quite the handsome fellow. And Luna looks like a model - right down to the lovely scarf and the perfect "leg-forward" model's pose. Love it!

The photos are beautiful! So is the "respect them all" perspective on predator proofing our birds. Nicely done!

At first glance, this project looks intimidating, but the attached plans make it look very do-able. Guess what Mom's getting for Christmas, this year?!

The pictorial story is great, but this article really needs some how-to text. Some instructions on what was done & why (like, is that filter cloth behind wooden siding or is there a solid wall in there, somewhere?) would be helpful. Some notes on what worked and what didn't, or even just a bit of backstory would help immensely.

This is an excellent article on trimming beaks & toenails. It lists out all the tools needed, how to position the bird and how to do the deed, step by step. The text is clear and easy to follow and the pictures are great. Hilda, the feathered lady enjoying her "spa day" is a real pro!

Nicely done! This is a must read for anyone who has never had a crop issue, so they're prepared. It's also a good idea for those who have experienced a crop dysfunction, as a quick refresher.

I'm so sorry! You're right about the higher fences, but the little buggers can climb an eight-footer, just like a raccoon. Keeping them locked up at night (the chickens, not the foxes... I wish!) is still your best bet - along with making sure nothing can dig under.
It's really hard to lose birds, especially in such a violent manner. Hopefully, this article will help some people fox-proof (or at least fox-deter) their coops - and keep more birds from becoming a free dinner.

Good info - and a great idea to add this to your egg sales. Everyone needs to know more about their food sources ... education is everything!
This is great - many of the most common egg issues summed up in a single, clearly written article ... Eggcellent!

This is an excellent plan for a few hens. Great for small spaces, but would adapt to almost anywhere. Dimensions and diagrams included. Very nicely done!
