This is a great start! The wire basket is such a good idea for a Mama Heating Pad (or cave.) Using a cutaway bin to contain water mess is pure genius! My next brooder box will definitely be using your basket ideas. Very nicely done!

Thank you very much for the kudos! - Let's see what the ducklings think about it. ;-)
(I already picture me in the middle of the night hunting for a duckling under my bed...)

Great starter and expansion set-up. Clearly explained & shown in a series of excellent pictures. A fine example of Chicken Math 101 and "Putting the Chickens Before the Coop." We've all been there, but most of us didn't handle it this well! Nicely Done!

Very well thought out! There's a lot of good information here, presented in a clear, easy-to-follow manner. It's a good read for anyone contemplating a few cockerels in the flock or dealing with a feathered "problem child." The recommendation to read Temple Grandin's work is a good one, too. If you don't have time to work through the books, look for the speeches and video shorts on YouTube. They're pretty much all good!

The pictures are excellent, but the commentary is even better! This is a wonderful example of a work-in-progress where we learn as our charges grow ... and we have to adapt to meet their needs. Well done ... but keep us posted as they grow, you learn ... and we benefit, too ... Please?

This is a good article. It makes fermented feed sound much easier than I'd thought. When the weather breaks again (I HATE winter ice!) I'll be giving it a try. Can you please put in some pics, so readers can see what the stuff is supposed to look like before, during or after fermentation?

I'm working on pics. We don't have a batch at the moment due to weather. I know I had some pics I've posted before, just trying to find them...

This is clear and pretty easy to follow. Will you be doing separate articles for each med, or editing this one to include others? Either way, your notes on how to weigh your chickens are must-read for anyone dosing their birds. You might consider adding a separate article on just that topic ... short, sweet and dare I say "funny?" Squirrely types, I LOVE it!

This is a good article for new exhibitors. A few pics would make it more appealing and easier to read through - maybe on bathing, a general view of a show, or even a pic of a show cage & waterers - anything that would catch new exhibitor's eye and help with planning.
Overall, a very nice job!

That's a great idea, to make your run so sturdy that you can put whatever you want inside. It sure will help with the boredom issues - both yours and your hens! Very nicely done!

This is beautifully done! Can you please add some details on how you added the straw insulation? You mentioned twine, but I don't see it - and how did you tack it into place so it isn't a choking or tangling hazard? I LOVE this!

Thank you! I just updated the article with more details about the straw insulation. I included a photo to give you a better idea of how I added the twine.

While there aren't many build pics, this is still a good article. As the author notes, there are lots of how-to videos on building hoop coops, so there wasn't a huge need for another. The tips, however, are worth the read, especially if you're an over-six foot chicken keeper. Thanks!

I'm 6'1" and I can stand in the center, with shoes on. I'd say it's roughly 6'3" in the center, using dimensions given and stapling the pannel on top of the frame.

Very nice set-up! Lots of space for both biddies and bunnies ... and even a little bit of expansion room! I really like the shed-style set-ups that allow room for people, too. If I had a set-up like this, You'd never get me out of there until first-frost!

Great Job! What a good idea to put it right off the deck so your youngster can help out. And I like the idea of using the under-deck space as a run, too. At our house, that space is usually reserved for hiding "junk" - like the lawnmower no one ever wants to put away properly!

What a wonderful chronicle of an even greater effort! Chickens can be so resilient ... as long as we are aware and persistent. Wonderful job ... in both documentation and super chicken care!
