Introduction
I have been on BYC for a year, and I absolutely love it and spend way too much time on it! I have found some very helpful tips, tools, and tricks, so I thoughts I would put them here! Since I’m sure I will end up adding to it, I will dedicate a whole page to each topic. This article will be much easier to read if you don’t use the Dark version of BYC. I took these pictures on my iPhone through Safari, so it may look different on your device. If you have any suggestions for topics, please pm me or leave a comment! If you still have questions, you can post them here. Let’s get started!

The gallery
The gallery can be useful if you want to show off pictures without making a whole post. It can be found on the main navigation menu.
There are different categories to put your media in. You can also make albums.
The gallery is a good way to show off your poultry related things and look at others’s. Learn how to add videos to the gallery here. You can find more tips and tricks for the gallery here.

Review items
Review items (not to be confused with article reviews) are helpful if you are wanting to get a certain breed or product, but want to make sure it’s a good purchase. They can be found on the main menu.
To find a review on a specific item you can click on the categories button at the top or filter them.
You can also add your opinion on a review item.
Reviews can be helpful when considering a purchase or raising a new breed.

Typing
Typing out responses, articles, and forums can seem pretty basic, or maybe you’re confused by the buttons. Either way, let’s go through some of the helpful options and tools you can use when typing. We will go from left to right starting with the top row, using the below picture as a guide.
BYC has many ways to customize your type and imbed helpful things!
* If you have already typed something out, but want to change this, no problem! Just select the desired text, and choose and click whatever it is that you want to change!
First row
- The first button has a variety of emojis under it. You can also use your phone’s emojis.
Here’s an article with more BYC emojis.
- The second button makes your type bold.*
- The third button changes your type’s color!*
- The fourth button changes your type’s Size.*
- The fifth button changes Font.*
- The sixth button slants your type.*
- The seventh button allows you to make ordered lists, unordered list (like this), indent, and outdent.
- The eighth button changes the way that your writing is centered.
- Clicking the ellipsis on the top row, you will see buttons that allow you to
cross through your type, underline your typing, Imbed a spoiler, add headings, and do this,
respectively.
Second row
- Moving to the second row, the first button allows you to add an image. Learn how to add videos here!
- The second button adds and removes the blue highlighting that indicates a quotation.*
- The third button allows you to imbed a link into a word. This is called a hyperlink. Just copy and paste the link in the top blank, and add the words you want in the bottom. Learn how to colorize a hyperlink here.
- The fourth button allows you to add a video from an external video site.
- The ellipsis on the bottom opens up buttons that allow you to search and add gifs, add your own and others’ albums and photos on BYC, add your own and others’ articles quickly, add a line that spans across the entire page, add a table, Enter a spoiler title, and lastly, you can add coding! These were in respective order.
Everything else
- I haven’t quite figured out the buttons in the bottom right corner, but I do know that the first one allows you to delete or save a draft, and the first button when you open the ellipsis allows you to undo your last move.
- Using the large green buttons at the bottom, you can also add previously saved quotes, and add an attachment.
Tagging
- This isn’t exactly a typing option, but another helpful tool is tagging. All you have to do is put “@“ followed by the person you would like to tag’s profile name. They will receive a notification that you tagged them. Below is a chart of places that a tag will and won’t work.
Tags in a…
Normal post in a thread | work |
Conversation | don’t work |
Article | don’t work |
Article comment | work |
Article review | don’t work |
Gallery description | work |
Profile Post | work |
Edited post (edited to add the tag) | don’t work |

Bookmarks
One tool that I have become obsessed with is bookmarks. They are fairly easy to use and label.
1. Pick an article or thread that you want to read later, share, or think may be useful. Locate the small bookmark button.
2. When you click the button it will give you multiple options. You can just save it, or you can leave a message and/or bookmark. You can also choose to share it or keep it private. If you change your mind, there is also a “delete” button.
3. When you want to access your bookmarks, click your profile picture in the top right row, and press the “bookmark” button.
It gives you the option to search by label, which is my favorite feature.
Like I said before, bookmarks are a good way to save materiel you would like to read later or frequently use.
