Aviary Netting or Hardware Cloth on Cattle Panel Run

ten years ago my husband and I built a 12 x 50 aviary with 4 different pens for cockatiels, budgies, conures, ect... We asked all kinds of bird people if it would be sturdy enough to keep out predators, everyone said no, and I asked a lot of bird breeders. Fast forward to now, it is holding up...

    Help need your advice please

Oh, I forgot to tell you, they are fully mature really, really young,, they can start laying eggs at 4-6 weeks old. Thank isn't a typo, it is really that young. When my kids were little, they could hold them just fine, if they ever got away from them, they were easy to catch.

    Help need your advice please

If you see bugs on the DE would be good, but you could also use bird mite and lice spray that you would buy from a pet supply company. I have used it on all kinds of birds, even babies, it works just fine.

    Help need your advice please

It looks like a male couturnix quail. I used to have them, they have speckles eggs, perfect to boil and then put in a jar and pickle. You pickle the eggs in leftover pickle juice. Takes a couple of weeks but very good. They are very docile, easy to handle and I never had an aggressive animal...

HELP!! Wrong end pip?!?! (Oh No! Complications!!!)

Just read the whole thread, it seems like it took forever to hatch, how many hours from pip to hatch was it? I have had the same thing happen with all that yolk not absorbed. I think mine was too much humidity Some of mine were very soggy and some didn't hatch all the way and were mushy and...

What should I put on the bottom of my run?

I do almost the same thing on the bottom of run, except I use washed sand, it is a little courser and drains just a little better. I rarely scoop anything out of there, sometimes fill in the holes with more washed sand. I do have most of the run covered so they don't get the eggs all muddy with...

Ameraucana Eggs - Difference in Color

That is interesting how they change from blue to green later in the laying cycle. I am not new to chickens, just Ameraucanas, I have wheaten/blue wheaten chicks and eggs in the incubator. I am wondering which to keep later when breeding these. Do I select the bluest eggs only to hatch? And...

    Blue Wheaten Ameraucana? Pullet?

Looks to me like a blue wheaten pullet. That is really odd about the toes going crooked after a week old. Hmmmm

About not bringing boxes to buy chickens and bring home in. I didn't bring any either, but thought about that a person could go into the town of Monroe and get some boxes at one of the local stores. Just a thought if you ever get in a bind next time.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

That was an accidental post, meant for an earlier posting. Another note, Really enjoyed the Poultry show at Monroe. I didn't show anything, but got to meet some of the BYC members and put names to their faces, some really nice people. Looked like a well organized show, really like seeing all...

I really like using washed sand, on the coop run outside, it drains really well, is a little courser than regular sand and it can also be used as a grit for the chickens.

I have the hovabator genesis 1588 incubator, it has forced air and has preset thermasat, with an automatic egg turner. Absolutely love it, nothing easier. It has a reservoir like the little giants in the bottom. It needs to be in a warm stable room though.
